Hey Everyone,
If you follow me on twitter, you probably have heard me talking about having a makeup competition for quite some time now. Well, I am so excited to tell all of you that it is finally here. Rather than ramble on (as usual), I am doing to get straight down to business and tell you about the theme, rules, criteria, prizes and judges.
Theme
This time of the year is awards season in Hollywood and with the Oscars coming up in just under 3 weeks, I decided that it would be fun to have a red carpet themed competition. This competition is definitely about glitz and glam, so find a picture of your favourite star on the red carpet and start creating your own special look.
The Look
1) You must choose one photo of any red carpet look you like. It does not have to be from the Oscars. It can be from any red carpet event including The Grammy's, MTV Awards, Tony's, etc.
2) Use the red carpet picture you chose as inspiration for your own red carpet look. You do not have to copy the exact look in the picture you choose. You merely have to do a look inspired by the picture. Maybe you love the colour of eyeshadow in the picture and want to use that colour on your lips. Think outside of the box.
3) Be creative! Think about what you would want to look like walking down the red carpet. Hair, makeup, accessories! We want to see the whole package.
The Rules
1) This contest will end Sunday, February 27th, 2011 (the night of the Oscars). Any late entries will not be taken into consideration.
2)You must submit the red carpet picture you used for inspiration as well as 2-3 photos of the look you have created. This is a beauty related competition, so be sure to keep that in mind when selecting the photos you want to submit. Finally, please include a paragraph on your inspiration for the look and how you accomplished it (you don't need to list everything you used, but if there are some products you would like to mention, feel free to include them).
3) All photos must be submitted through email to funnyfacebeautycontests@gmail.com. If you post about your red carpet look on your blog and want to leave the link in the comment section, that would be great. However, judging will only be based on the 2-3 photos submitted by email.
Judging Criteria
I know submitting photos to a competition can be nerve wracking, so I really want to stress that this competition is not only about who is the most skilled makeup artist. Anyone can win this competition, whether they are a makeup novice or a certified artist.
After all of the photos have been submitted (and the contest is over), I will be giving the judges a standard score sheet with all of the criteria for judging the looks. Everyone will receive a score out of 100, with three categories being taken into consideration:
1) Skill (20%): The judges will be taking into account your skills and the overall difficulty of the look you created. Is your eyeshadow well blended, did you contour your cheekbones, etc. Show us what you've got.
2) Creativity (40%): As I said at the beginning of this post, the judges will be looking for creativity. Your look doesn't have to be an exact copy of the red carpet picture you chose. Maybe you used a lipstick instead of blush, maybe you made your own false lashes out of feathers. Think outside of the box!
3) Execution (40%): Judges will also be looking at execution. We want to see how well you completed your original plan and how well you accomplished your look. Did you use the right products for the look you wanted to achieve? Did your look turn out the way you intended it to? Did you take time to make sure all aspects of your look are well done (both eyes even, lipstick not smudged, etc). Do you have the whole package (makeup, hair, etc)?
Judges
The judges for this competition are all amazing beauty bloggers and I am so happy that they all agreed to be a part of this makeup competition. I admire all of their talent and highly recommend you check out all of their awesome blogs.
Marie from Marie a la Mode: Marie is a fashion, beauty, lifestyle and entertainment blogger from Alberta, Canada and the face behind Marie a la Mode. This 'Girl Next Door' loves sharing her cosmetic hauls and affordable fashion finds with her readers and proves that women do not have to break the bank to look good.
Amy from Black and White Collage: Amy is a beauty blogger, licensed cosmetician and most importantly a mom of two adorable children. Amy has worked in the beauty industry for over 5 years, working as a makeup artist for both Smashbox and Dior. In her spare time, Amy does freelance makeup. Her credits include: Bj's Pizza, Family Dollar, Dicks Sporting Goods and Coors Light.
Marie from Marie Loves Makeup: Marie is a beauty blogger, beauty enthusiast and aspiring makeup artist from Quebec Canada. At only 17, Marie is extremely talented and well known for her bold and colourful looks. Marie spends hours learning new techniques and recently participated as a makeup artist in her first fashion show.
Prizes
Rather than award only one person with a big prize, I decided it would be more fun to have 3 winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) and 3 smaller prizes. Rather than assign a specific prize for each place (ie. Too Faced palette for 2nd place), I have decided that the 1st place winner will be able to choose their prize first, 2nd place will choose second, and third will receive the remaining prize. Here are all three prizes:
2) Too Faced's Smoky Eye Palette: This super cute eyeshadow palette contains 9 creamy eyeshadows and 3 easy to follow, step by step cards perfect for creating 3 different smoky-eyed looks ('Day Smoke', 'Fashion Smoke' and 'Classic Smoke'.
3) The Balm's 'Balmbini' Palette: This versatile palette includes 2 eyeshadows ('Shady Lady' and 'Jordana), a highlighter ('Mary Luminizer'), 2 blushes ('Downboy' and 'Hot Mama') and 2 lipglosses ('Read My Lips' and 'Special Edition).
I really hope that you will all take part in the competition. I know how talented each and every one of you is and I seriously cannot wait to see the looks you come up with. If you have any questions about the competition please leave me a comment below or email me at funnyfacebeauty@gmail.com.
Thank you and Good Luck!
xx
Alicia
