Love Them or Leave Them: Makeup Cakes

Hey Everyone,

Ever since I turned twenty, I have been obsessing about my 30th Birthday, and while certain members of my family may not agree (*cough mom cough*), I personally feel 30 is a huge milestone and therefore, should be celebrated with a huge cake...a makeup cake!

Although I have decided to have a fairly small Sunday brunch birthday party, I really want my cake to be grand, and of course, to reflect my love for all things pretty, pink and beauty related. I had originally planned to give up control and let my mom and sister take care of the the cake details, but I would be lying if I said I haven't been wanting to write out a list of cake do's and don'ts, as well as take some pictures of my favourite beauty items to help 'inspire' whoever the person making the cake (What?! You only get one 30th birthday makeup cake!).

Of course, I love all of the cakes pictured in this post, and would be extremely happy to have any of them (especially the one above), but my question to you is...would you love to celebrate your next birthday with a  makeup cake, or would you rather have something a little more simple and 'mature'? Do you think 30th Birthdays are a big deal? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

  3. Those cakes are great and I definitely agree that birthdays like 30ths should be as grand as you want them to be because its an achievement!

I had a friend that wasnt married or in a long term relationship and for her 30th threw a HUGE fancy dress party and had heaps of drinks put on and an extravagant cake. Her reasoning - she is only 30 once, never been engaged or married... so that was her big party!

    Go for it girl

    1. I've made a couple of cakes for friends (not nearly as good looking). They taste good...I just take off the fondant (the thick coloured icing on top). It's a little too sweet.

  17. Cake boss always comes on when we are eating dinner and my mom always comments on how it is so gross how much they actaully touch the cake. I'm personaly not a huge fan of cake in general. Considering the cost of a cake like this I'd rather just keep the dough for some real make up or purse!!

    1. Ya they do touch it a lot. I've made a few cakes like that (not nearly as nice) and they are a lot of fun to make. I love cake and makeup, so why not together. xx

  18. It is your birthday and your cake. You should have what YOU want! Personally I think they are adorable. I would lean towards wanting a larger single unit cake rather than multiple small pieces because I don't really like the fondant, but that is ME and this is all about YOU!

    1. I agree about fondant. I'd like a layered cake with little makeup pieces stuck on. :)

  19. I think they are fab...but remember, a cake that great don't come cheap :(

    1. No they don't. I haven't gotten any price quotes yet..hopefully it won't be too too much.

  20. I love these...I think it's YOUR birthday, no matter what # it is, and you should have as much fun as possible, and if that means a makeup cake, then so be it! Honestly, though, I probably wouldn't want one....but only because I would then feel guilty about eating any of it because it looks so neat!
