A Trick for Neon Nail Polish

Hey Everyone,

Last week, when I posted my 'I Love Neon' post, I mentioned that I was having trouble getting some of my neon nail polishes (more specifically China Glaze's 'Celtic Sun') to show up vibrantly on my nails. For anyone who has own Celtic Sun, a super bright neon yellow, you will know that while it looks promising in the bottle, it comes out very streaky, and takes four to five coats before it starts looking somewhat opaque (and even then it's not so great).

Well, thanks to a couple of my subscribers who left comments on that post, I have a new trick to share on how to make your neon polishes appear more vibrant, more true to colour, and a lot less streaky. White nail polish!!

Without white nail polish, with white nail polish, without white nail polish, with white nail polish

By applying a light coat of white nail polish (I chose Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear polish in 'White On') to the nails before applying two coats of 'Celtic Sun', I was able to get that bright yellow, almost glow-in-the-dark colour that appears in the China Glaze bottle.

I have now tried this trick with several of my neon polishes (even the ones that do already come out opaque), and have noticed that all of the polishes look better over a white base.

Thanks again to my subscribers for giving me this little trick. I hope it works as well for all of you!

Have you tried this nail polish trick before? What is your favourite neon polish? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

  7. I have done that, usually do, but I've never seen it make such an amazing difference, I guess because I never really compared. I use white whenever I have colors that I'd like to "pop" a bit more. Right now, I'm actually sporting white nails with neon tips using CG Flip Flop Fantasy, CG Japanese Koi, and some Orly neons. Flip Flop Fantasy is by far my favorite neon, if not my favorite color ever! It's so popular but it's such a beautiful, vibrant color!

I'm in a neon mood, me too! At the moment I'm wearing a very bright pink-light fucsia :)
    Have a great day

  9. Oh wow that makes such a difference! I'm definitely gonna try this! Come to think of it, I'm sure my old art teacher at school used to get us to start off our paintings with a coat of white, so the colours come out much more vibrant. x
