TAG: Products I Vow to Use During the Month of August

Hey Everyone,

While tidying my makeup area, I realized that I have a lot of products that go unused. Whether it's because they are hiding at the back of my drawer, or because I get stuck in the rut of using the same thing over and over again, there are some products I just don't use enough (or at all). It is because of this, that I decided to start a new monthly tag called 'Products I Vow to Use During the Month of _______'. Basically, each month, I will show you eight products I vow to use during that month, and then at the end of the month give a mini review on each product, letting you know if I would recommend them or not.

For this month, I have created two ways for you to see the products I vow to use. For those who prefer to read a blog post, I have listed all of the products I plan to use below, with a little blurb on my feelings towards them so far. For those who prefer to watch a video, my sister Krista and I made a video showing my eight products, as well as the eight products she vows to use this month.

Too Faced 'The Bronzed and The Beautiful' Palette:
I bought this eyeshadow palette when I went to LA last October. After attending a talk by Too Faced creator, Jerrod Blandino, I was dying to try all of the different bronzers and highlighters he was talking about. Unfortunately, I have yet to fall in love with this palette. I find that the majority of the bronzers have too much shimmer for me, and definitely don't use them on a regular basis. I do plan on giving it one more try before gifting it to a friend or family member.

Sleek Makeup 'Oh So Special' Eyeshadow Palette:
With twelve fairly neutral eyeshadows, this inexpensive drugstore palette is perfect for every day use. I have been using this almost daily so far this month, and can already confess my love. My only complaint so far is that the shadows are quite soft, and therefore have a lot of fallout.

Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in 'Nectar':
This shimmering peachy-pink highlighter is another product I picked up in LA last year. While I absolutely love the five different strips of colour, I usually steer away from this product because it has so much shimmer. I have been using it as both a blush and highlighter this month, and am slowly finding myself falling in love...slowly.

Mehron Lip Cream in 'Sunburst':
I originally picked up this hot coral lip product thinking it was a cream blush. After talking to the Mehron staff, and being assured that I could still use it as a blush, I decided to take a risk and try it as both. I absolutely love the colour (it's so summer!), but am still undecided when it comes its super creamy, almost greasy, texture.

Physicians Formula 'Mineral Airbrushed' Pressed Powder:
I received this full coverage powder at a Physicians Formula event I attended last fall. After listening to celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip talking about it, I remember thinking "I am so going to love this". Unfortunately, it somehow got lost in the back of my makeup drawer, and it wasn't until the beginning of the month that I re-discovered it, and decided to add it to my 'Products I Vow to Use' list. So far, I really like it, and definitely can see it replacing my MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural.

NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in 'Dolly Pink':
The first time I attended IMATS Toronto, I went a little crazy at the NYX station, especially when it came to their Mega Shine Lip Glosses (they are so cheap). Once, I got home and opened them, I wasn't  such a big fan. While very pigmented and creamy, these glosses have a VERY STRONG cherry cough syrup scent. Dolly Pink is a beautiful HOT pink gloss that gives the lips a very glossy sheen. Surprisingly, I am starting to like the smell, so this gloss could definitely end up being a new favourite.

Guerlian G-Noir Mascara:
I received this mascara this spring while attending a taping of Cityline in Toronto. When my friend and I heard the concept of this re-fillable mascara, we thought it was pretty stupid (why wouldn't you just buy a new mascara, or a cheaper one for that). I tried this mascara as soon as I got it, but really didn't like it (I found it to be very clumpy). With that said, I know that as mascaras dry out, they tend to become a little more manageable, and so I have decided to give this a second try.

Annabelle Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil in 'Melonade':
While I really like the concept of an eyeshadow pencil, so far I have been very disappointed by what is currently out on the market. Annabelle's Smoothie Eyeshadow Pencil in Melonade, a shimmering peach, is a different story. This pencil look amazing on its own, or when used as a base for a powder shadow, and seems to last well throughout the day. I don't want to give my final verdict on the product yet, but unless something unforeseen happens (what could happen really?), this is a winner.

If you would like a little more detail on each product, as well as see the eight product my sister vows to use this month, be sure to check out the video below.

Of course, I tag all of you to do the 'Products I Vow to Use' challenge with me. If you want to take part, be sure to leave a link to your post or video in the comment section below, so I can check it out.

  2. I've been eying up the shimmer strips but thought they might be a bit too shimmery for my liking too, the colour combinations are so pretty though! I really love this tag and I already have at least one product in mine if I can ever sit down long enough to write it up!
