January Favourites

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all having a great Saturday. My Saturday has been spent at home, because I neglected to get snow tires put on my car this winter, and we are currently in the middle of a mini snow storm. Luckily, this gave me time to sit down and write my monthly favourites post. January was a great makeup month for me, as I managed to try (and buy) and bunch of new beauty products. Unlike previous months, all of my favourites for the month of January are new to my collection, and I am, therefore, really excited to share them with you.

Urban Decay 'Naked Basics' Palette:
The new Urban Decay 'Naked Basics' palette features one satin  and five matte super creamy, neutral eyeshadows. While I have been loving all of the colours in this palette, my favourite has definitely been 'W.O.S', a light, pink-toned beige, that adds light to both, my lids and brow bone. Maybelline Colour Tattoo Metal in 'Inked in Pink':
After falling in love with Maybelline's new Colour Tattoo Metal eyeshadow in 'Barely Branded' last month, I couldn't wait to try another colour from the line. This month's favourite? 'Inked in Pink', a metallic rose-gold with extremely finely milled iridescent silver, blue and pink shimmer. Like 'Barely Branded', 'Inked in Pink' is super creamy, easy to blend, nicely pigmented and lasts all day. I absolutely love Maybelline's Colour Tattoo Metal shadows, and can't wait to see what other colours they have in store for 2013.

elf Baked Eyeshadow in 'Toasted':
Earlier this month, while shopping in the US with Amber, of Canadian Fashionista, I spotted elf's Baked Eyeshadow in 'Toasted', a gorgeous rose-gold with peach undertones, and very finely milled gold shimmer. Despite my objection that I didn't need another eyeshadow, Amber persuaded me to buy it (she said 'ooh, that is pretty', and I said 'okay, I'll get it'...), and I'm glad she did. Not only is this shadow super pigmented, its has a gorgeous sheen, and is soft and creamy, and easy to blend. Combined with Maybelline's 'Inked in Pink', this is the perfect eyeshadow to make blue eyes POP.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 'Light':
While I am still on the hunt for the perfect under-eye concealer (I want a miracle concealer that gets rid of ALL of my fine lines and completely conceals my dark circles), this month's favourite has been Maybelline's 'Fit Me' concealer. With a high coverage finish, and a super creamy texture, this concealer definitely helps hide my dark circles and, in combination with the right brush (I use the Real Techniques 'Deluxe Crease Brush'), doesn't draw attention to the fine lines under my eyes. With that said, I am always on the hunt for something better so, if you have any suggestions, be sure to leave them in the comment section below.

L'Oreal 'Telescopic Shocking Extensions' Mascara:
I have always had, and probably will always have, short, stubby lashes. So, I am constantly on the lookout for a great lengthening mascara. This month's pick? L'Oreal's new 'Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara'. With a small, thin plastic brush that widens slightly at both ends, this mascara is great at getting to the roots of lashes, giving them a longer, 'false lash' effect. This non-waterproof mascara lasts nicely throughout the day without smudging or flaking (something I always seem to have trouble with).

Too Faced 'The Secret to No Makeup Makeup' Fresh and Flawless Face Palette:
The Too Faced 'The Secret to No Makeup Makeup' palette was definitely my favourite purchase from my trip to the US last month. Not only are all of the products included in this palette (a cream blush, a powder blush, a powder highlighter, a concealer, a cream luminizer and a cream brightener) really great quality, they are easy to use, nicely pigmented, and give my face a gorgeous 'perfect for spring' glow. Maybelline Colour Whisper Lipstick in 'Lust for Blush':
When I first heard news of Maybelline's new Colour Whisper lipsticks, I immediately knew I would love them. Similar to L'Oreal's 'Colour Riche Caresse Lipsticks', Maybelline's 'Colour Whispers' fall somewhere between a lip balm (super moisturizing) and a lipstick (super pigmented). While I have tried a number of the new colours, my favourite is definitely 'Lust for Blush', a light, nude-toned pink. This has been the perfect every day lip colour for my crazy dry lips (you should see them, they are awful) as it is very moisturizing, and looks great paired with any eye look. If you haven't already, you should definitely check out Maybelline's new Colour Whisper lipsticks. I can't wait to buy more!

'Inked in Pink', 'Toasted', 'Lust for Blush'

Too Faced 'The Secret to No Makeup Makeup': highlighter, cream blush,  powder blush

Too Faced 'The Secret to No Makeup Makeup': concealer, luminizer, brightener

Naked Basics: Venus, Foxy, W.O.S

Naked Basics: Naked 2, Faint, Crave

    1. You should! I would stick with the metallic ones though. I have tried the non metal ones and didn't like them nearly as much. xx

  4. You should give i.t. Cosmetics' Bye Bye Under Eye a try - it's honestly been a lifesaver for me. Definitely one of my secret weapons.

Where did you get the keep calm print? I love it!

    1. Hey Dee. I did have that at one point and really liked it but now that the lines under my eyes are so prominent and dry, I find that a thicker concealer like that just clings to everything. I got the print on etsy a couple of years ago. I can't remember the exact seller but I think there are a bunch that sell it. xx

  6. Love your favourites, I also loved the Naked Basics palette, WOS is one of my favs too. My other favs were a Chanel shadow duo in Gris (Christmas present), the Donna Karan deodorant (expensive but so nice), Moroccan oil hairspray (not great hold but amazing smell), L'oreal Color riche balm in tender mauve and the plain Maybelline Baby lips in the blue container.
