Hey Everyone,
With so many great new Spring 2013 collections currently out, it's no wonder my wallet continues to get lighter and lighter. Luckily, there have a been a number of drugstore releases that, while still in keeping with Spring's pretty pastel and bold colour themes, appeal to those who don't want to spend 'big bucks' when it comes to their makeup.
One company that recently released a number of new products for Spring 2013 is Maybelline. From gorgeous cream eyeshadows, to vibrant lipsticks, Maybelline started 2013 with a BANG! I was recently sent some of Maybelline's newest products, and after a couple of weeks of testing them, wanted to share my thoughts.
Maybelline Colour Tattoo Metal 24hr Eyeshadow in 'Inked in Pink' (SRP $8.99 CND):
As I have mentioned in several posts, I am absolutely in love with Maybelline's new Colour Tattoo Metal eyeshadows. Not only do these super creamy, well pigmented shadows give eyes a beautiful metallic sheen, they are easy to apply, crease proof, and last all day. I have been using 'Inked in Pink', a gorgeous metallic rose-gold with extremely finely milled iridescent silver, blue and pink shimmer, every single day this month (seriously!), and find that it looks great on its own or paired with a light champagne colour like e.l.f's Baked Eyeshadow in 'Toasted'. If you haven't already picked this up, you need to, now!
Maybelline Master Duo Liquid Eyeliner in 'Violet Luster' (SRP $11.99 CND):
Touted as the 'first ever 2-in-1 liquid eyeliner, Maybelline's new Master Duo eyeliner, allows you to create both a thin and a thick line with its new dual tip technology (If you turn the brush on its side, you get a thin line. If you make it flat, you get a thicker line). Despite claims of a new shiny, long lasting formula, I have to say I am not impressed. While I like the idea of being able to create different sized lines with the same brush, I found the formula to be extremely watery (even after shaking it over and over again) and very sticky, making it difficult to apply and not at all opaque. Once on (very messily), Violet Luster, a dark purple with slight grey undertones is completely smudge proof and does last nicely throughout the day. I am curious as to whether all of the new Master Duo eyeliners have a watery formula or if it is just this particular colour. If you've had a chance to try one of Maybelline's latest liquid eyeliners, be sure to let me know in the comment section below.
Maybelline Rocket Volume Express Mascara (SRP: $9.49 CND):
With a short, spiky plastic brush (wider at the base, smaller at the top) and a new volumizing formula, Maybelline's Rocket Volume Express Mascara separates lashes, coating each one individually for a dramatic and very voluminous, look (8x more volume according to Maybelline). While I did find that my lashes looked a lot fuller after using this mascara, I found the formula to be extremely wet. and therefore somewhat messy to apply (there were definitely a few clumps). Like most mascaras, I truly think Maybelline's new Rocket Volume Express will get better with age, and can see myself really loving this mascara in a few more weeks. If you have thin, stubby lashes that are in need of some volume, definitely check this out. If however, you hate a really wet mascara and don't want any clumps, you may want to skip this.
Maybelline Colour Whisper Lipsticks in 'Coral Ambition' and 'Cherry On Top' (SRP: $9.99 CND):
A hybrid between a lip balm and a lipstick, Maybelline's new Colour Whisper Lipsticks are super creamy, extremely moisturizing and very light weight (they are formulated with a silicone gel). With a full dose of colour (these are so well pigmented), these lipsticks are quite opaque and leave lips with a beautiful, slightly glossy finish. These have definitely become my new favourite lip products and I was more than happy to add the following colours to my Colour Whisper collection (I bought four in the US last month): 'Coral Ambition', a light peachy-coral with slight pink undertones and 'Cherry On Top', a bright fuchsia pink with slight red undertones. If you have yet to try Maybelline's new 'Colour Whisper' Lipsticks, you must. They are everything a lip product should be (moisturizing, pigmented, lightweight) and definitely worth the $9.99 CND price tag.
Maybelline Vivid Lipsticks in 'Vivid Rose' and 'Hot Plum' (SRP: $9.99 CND):
With intense pigmentation and an extremely opaque formula, Maybelline's new Vivid lipsticks are, in my opinion, a complete home run. Not only do these bold lipsticks come in a variety of great colours, they are super creamy, very easy to apply and surprisingly moisturizing (no balm needed before application). I received the following two colours which I have definitely fallen head-over-heels in love with, 'Vivid Rose', a super bright fuchsia with strong red undertones and 'Hot Plum', a vibrant pink-purple with blue undertones. Despite being very bright, these colours work all year long and look great paired with a simple eye and heavy mascara. If you are looking for a bold hued, moisturizing lipstick at a drug store price, Maybelline's new Vivid Lipsticks are definitely worth a look.
