O.P.I 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' Collection (Review + Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

With the new 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' movie set to release in just over a week, O.P.I has released a collection of polishes named after and, inspired by, the new film. This collection, which includes three light nudes, three bold glitters and one of O.P.I's new liquid sand polishes, is a nice break from all of the dark, vampy collections we have been seeing all Winter (personally, I'm sick of them!).

I was recently sent four polishes from the new collection and, after a week of testing them out (my sister and I have been wearing all four colours for over a week), I wanted to share my thoughts.

O.P.I 'Glints of Glinda:
This sheer, peachy-beige polish gives nails a soft and very natural look, perfect for Spring. While quite sheer, 'Glints of Glinda' applied beautifully (no streakiness) in three coats for an opaque finish. I've been wearing this particular colour for a week now, and have had absolutely no problems with chipping or fading. I've been loving nude nail polish lately and, therefore, 'Glints of Glinda' has definitely become one of my all time favourite O.P.I polishes.

O.P.I 'I Theodora You':
This sheer, bubble-gum pink polish gives nails a natural, yet somewhat colourful look. Like 'Glints of Glinda', 'I Theodora You' is very easy to work with (no streaks) and applies opaquely in three coats. My sister, Krista, has been wearing this colour for over a week, and has had no problems with chipping or fading. This colour fits in perfectly with Spring's pastel trend, making it a great 'trendy' colour for both fingers and toes.

O.P.I 'Which is Witch?':
This holographic, silver glitter polish is packed full of both large hexagonal, and small rectangular glitter, making it easy to get a great 'blinged-out' effect in just two coats. I've been wearing this polish on top of 'Glints of Glinda' for the past week and have had absolutely no problems with chipping. This colour looks great worn on the tips of nails for a sparkly 'french manicured' look.

O.P.I 'Light of Emerald City':
With both large white square chunks, and smaller iridescent gold, peach, and green square chunks, this is one of the most unique glitter polishes I have ever tried. Unfortunately, this polish is somewhat difficult to apply, as you must dig out individual pieces of glitter in order to get them on the nail (they don't want to leave the bottle!). Once on, they give nails a really cool iridescent effect which, in my opinion, is well worth the extra effort. My sister has been wearing this polish on top of 'I Theodora You' for over a week and once again, has had no problems with chipping. So pretty!

Overall, I absolutely love all four polishes from the new O.P.I 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' collection. With the exception of 'Light of Emerald' City (which was difficult to apply), all of the polishes were easy to work with, and have lasted without chipping for over a week. This beautiful collection is a breath of fresh air after all of the heavy Winter collections, and, in my opinion, is definitely the best collection I have seen from O.P.I in quite sometime. If you love a good nude or glitter polish, I would definitely recommend you check this collection out.

What do you think of O.P.I's new 'Oz: The Great and Powerful Collection'? Will you be picking any of the polishes up? Which of the polishes above would you most like to try? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

essence Cosmetics Spring/Summer 2013 Collection + Event

Hey Everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, my sister Krista, my friend Amber and I drove into Toronto for essence cosmetics' Spring/Summer 2013 preview event. If you've been a follower of my blog for awhile now, you will know that I am a big fan of this high quality, low budget brand.

Nail Bar

Ice Cream Bar

My Lip Reading

Krista, Amber and I

The event itself was great. From a a nail bar and makeup station to a DIY ice cream bar, pink popcorn and a lip print reader (think palm reader), there was so much to do and see. Of course, the most exciting part of the event was seeing all of the new products essence has in store for Spring/Summer 2013. Below are just a few of the many items essence cosmetics is set to release this month.

essence 'I Love Extreme Crazy Volume' Mascara ($4.99 CND):
With an extra-long, plastic brush (this thing is big), this creamy textured mascara coats each individual lash creating a bold, and very voluminous, look.

essence 'Stay No Matter What' 24 Hour Volume Mascara ($4.99 CND):
This new waterproof mascara, made for 'active beauties' contains a special formula meant to last on lashes for 24 hours. With a new 'innovative fibre brush', this mascara coats lashes individually giving them a voluminous effect.

essence 3D Duo Eyeshadow ($3.49 CND):
essence's new 3D duo eyeshadows have a super light and creamy texture that 'creates a cool finish with a 3D effect- from satin to metallic to shimmering- upon application'. Although very pigmented when dry, these shadows can be used wet for a more intense look.

essence 'Kiss Care Love' Lip Balms ($1.99 CND):
These lightly textured lip balms (which come in four different colours) not only smell amazing (think fruity), they give lips a subtle hint of colour and use castor to bathe dry lips in moisture. Love!

essence Nail Art Stampy Set ($3.99 CND):
In my opinion, one of the most exciting products essence will be releasing is a nail art stamp set containing a nine image stencil, a scraper and a nail stamper. At only $3.99 CND, this is a major steal for both nail art lovers and newbies.

essence Colour and Go Nail Polish ($1.99 CND):
With several new colours being released, essence's famous line of affordable, pigmented and very opaque nail polish, continues to grow. Also being introduced to the polish line is a 'gel-look topcoat' that dries quickly giving nails a gel-like finish.

essence Nail Duo Stylist ($1.99 CND):
This double-ended nail art tool not only helps when applying decorative jewels (sequins, gems, etc.), it can also be used to create freehanded nail art such as polka dots or flowers.

Also included in essence's new line of products are a 'Matt Fixing Compact Powder' ($3.99 CND), a 'Nail Art Decoration Kit' ($3.49 CND), 'Nail Stickers' ($0.99 CND), a jumbo eyeliner pen ($3.99 CND) and more.

Do you plan on picking up anything from essence's Spring/Summer 2013 collection? Which of the products mentioned above would you most like to try? What is your all time favourite essence product? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

John Frieda 'Luxurious Volume' Collection

Hey Everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, my good friend Amber of Canadian Fashionista, and I had the privilege of attending an event held by John Frieda for the launch of their new 'Luxurious Volume' collection.

Amber and I

The collection, which features seven hair care products, including a shampoo, conditioner, two blow dry sprays, a mousse, and hairspray and a dry shampoo, uses 'new and innovation formulas specifically designed to add grip to fine, flat hair' leaving hair soft, voluminous, full of body and not at all crunchy or weighed-down.

Expert stylist Alain Laviree was on hand at the event and used two live models to show us how to properly use new each product, as well as the overall effect of the new line on very fine, limp hair.

The line, which is now available in drugstores across Canada, consists of the following seven products:

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'Touchably Full Shampoo' ($10.49 CND):
This new, lightweight shampoo has a patented formula that gently cleanses fine hair, while applying volume boosters that are 'activated during blow dry to enhance hair's natural volume for hair that feels naturally full and soft'.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'Touchably Full Conditioner' ($10.49 CND):
Like the 'Touchably Full Shampoo', this lightweight conditioner uses a special volume-building technology that is activated during blow dry, leaving hair flat hair shiny, smooth and full of body.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray' ($14.99 CND):
With an easy to use spray head, John Frieda's latest blow out spray uses Kao polymer technology to transform fine hair making it appear noticeably fuller, softer and smoother'.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion' ($10.49 CND):
This light-weight lotion, formulated with a targeted lifting complex, lifts fine hair at the roots giving it extra volume that lasts throughout the day, while protecting it from the damaging effects of daily heat styling.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'All Day Hold Hairspray' ($10.49 CND):
This water-free, silicone-based, ultra fine hairspray contains 'a high hold polymer' that protects hair from humidity and locks in fullness and volume, ensuring that hair remains voluminous and soft all day.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'Volume Building Mousse' ($10.49 CND):
With a thickening technology that increases hair diameter and lifts roots, John Frieda's new 'Volume Building Mousse' creates thickness by 'wrapping strands and boosting volume from root to tip for soft, lush hair'.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 'Refresher Dry Shampoo' ($10.49 CND):
Formulated to absorb oil without weighing hair down, this dry shampoo boosts hair volume, adding texture and fullness to fine hair, without any visible signs of white-build up residue.

Having super thick, very full hair (think a Lion's mane), this particular line of hair products isn't really for me. My mom, on the other hand, has very fine, often limp-looking hair and is, therefore, in the process of testing these new products out.

So far, she really likes the 'Touchably Full Shampoo and Conditioner. She finds that both products make her hair feel thicker and fuller, and can see a noticeable difference in terms of volume. On the other hand, while she found that the 'Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion' made her hair feel thicker, she also found that it gave her hair a coarse texture that she did not like. She is continuing to try all of the products in the new John Frieda 'Luxurious Volume' line, and I will be sure to update you with the results.

Do you plan on trying any of the products from the new John Frieda 'Luxurious Volume' line? Is your hair naturally thick or do you need a product that adds volume to thin, limp hair? What are your favourite John Frieda hair care products? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Oscar Red Carpet Trend: Heavy Metal

Hey Everyone,

Last night marked the 85th annual Acamedy Awards (The Oscars) and, with the exception of a few looks(ahem...Anne Hathaway), I was really impressed by all of the red carpet fashions. My favourite trend? Heavy Metal! Whether full on metallic sequins (Nicole Kidman), light metallic beading (Sandra Bullock) or a beautiful metallic fabric (Jessica Chastain), the following ladies totally rocked the red carpet:

Amanda Seyfried

Catherine Zeta Jones

Jennifer Hudson

Kristin Chenoweth

Kelly Osborne

Stacy Keibler

Naomi Watts

Nicole Kidman

Lara Spencer

Halle Berry

Jessica Chastain

Salma Hayek

Jane Fonda

Sandra Bullock

What did you think of last night's metallic trend? Who was your best dressed pick from the night? Which of the looks above is your favourite? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.
