Bye Bye Google Reader, Hello Alternatives

Hey Everyone,

Firstly, I wanted to apologize for the complete lack of posts on Funny Face Beauty recently. It has been a rough couple of months health wise, and to be completely honest, most days I haven't felt up to blogging. With that said, I am definitely on the road to figuring everything out, and REALLY want to get back to my regular blogging schedule starting this week with a huge giveaway including a Lorac Pro Palette, .

Of course, by now you have all heard that, as of tomorrow, Google Reader is being discontinued. While I'm not 100% sure what that means (I am technologically illiterate!), what I do know is that those who follow my blog via Google Reader will not be able to see all of the fun future posts I have planned.

To ensure that you are still able to keep up with all of my beauty and fashion posts, I wanted to share some of the alternative ways you can follow Funny Face Beauty. I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me for the past three years and truly hope, you will stick with me for another great year.

Revlon Haute Tropics Collection (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

To celebrate the season of beach getaways, pool parties and backyard BBQs, Revlon recently released their limited edition Haute Tropics nail enamel collection. Combining 'contemporary blues and purples' with 'electric, eye-popping pinks and oranges', the new collection features 8 'on-trend shades' perfect for Summer.

With a shade lock technology, that helps colours stay vibrant throughout the life of your manicure, and a silk protein shield that helps prevent bubbles, streaks and brush marks, the new Haute Tropics polishes have a smooth, opaque, and very pigmented finish.

Below is a closer look at four of the shades from the new Haute Tropics collection.

Revlon Nail Enamel in 'Secluded Beach':
A light brown-taupe with heavy purple undertones and a metallic pink-purple sheen, 'Secluded Beach' takes nude nails to the next level. This polish is extremely well pigmented, easy to work with (the formula is so smooth) and applies opaquely in just one coat.

Revlon Nail Enamel in 'Mai Tai Ask?':
A bold, creamy orange with coral-red undertones, 'Mai Tai Ask?' (best named nail polish ever!) is the perfect summer shade. This polish is super smooth, easy to work with and applies opaquely in just one coat.

Revlon Nail Enamel in 'Plunge Pool':
A deep, metallic royal blue with a light blue metallic sheen/shimmer, 'Plunge Pool' is the type of colour that works nicely all year long (personally I am loving deep blues for Summer). Like the previous two polishes, 'Plunge Pool' has a great consistency and applies opaquely in just one coat.

Revlon Nail Enamel in 'Hello Bali':
A deep, creamy plummy-purple, 'Hello Bali' looks amazing on both fingers and toes (I like wearing a darker polish on my toes). Unfortunately, this polish is a little streaky and therefore requires three coats for a smooth, opaque finish (personally I don't mind the extra work as the colour is just so pretty!).

Will you be picking anything up from Revlon's new Haute Tropics nail collection? Which of the shades above would you most like to get your hands on? What is your all time favourite Revlon nail polish shade? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Diorblush Cheek Cremes in 'Capri' and 'Paréo' (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

As part of their limited edition Summer Mix Collection, Dior recently released four absolutely stunning 'Diorblush Cheek Cremes'. With a light creamy, almost moussey, texture, the new Cheek Cremes are non-oily, extremely well pigmented and easy to blend, giving cheeks a soft, beautiful, very natural-looking glow.

I was recently sent two of the four new 'Diorblush Cheek Cremes' and after nearly a month of testing them out, I am in no way exaggerating when I say, I have fallen head over heels in love with them. To me, they are everything a blush should be: insanely well pigmented, easy to blend out (you can sheer them down for a soft look or build them up for a more intense look), and despite having no shimmer or glitter (woohoo!), give cheeks a gorgeous lit-from-within glow.

Below is more information on two of the new gorgeous Diorblush Cheek Cremes:

Diorblush Cheek Creme in 'Capri':
A light, matte, baby pink with heavy peach undertones, Capri gives both lighter and darker skin tones a very natural looking flush.

Diorblush Cheek Creme in 'Paréo':
A matte, super bright hot pink with both blue and red undertones, Paréo is the quintessential summer blush, giving cheeks a stunning pop of colour.

The new Diorblush Cheek Cremes retail for $30CND/0.24oz and can be purchased at The Bay. Although on the pricier side, I can't rave about these blushes enough. My sister and I are both so in love with them and would highly recommend both Dior newbies and addicts pick at least one colour up before they are gone. As for me, I plan to pick up the other two 'Diorblush Cheek Cremes' colours ASAP.

Paréo, Capri

Will you be picking up one (or all) of the new Diorblush Cheek Cremes? Which of the colours shown above would you most like to get your hands on? What is your all time favourite summer blush shade? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Mary Kay's 'Men's Fragrance Travel Collection' (Father's Day Gift Idea)

Hey Everyone,

As I mentioned in my previous Father's Day Gift Idea post, my dad is almost impossible to shop for. It is for that reason, that I absolutely love when companies make shopping easier, putting together limited-edition Father's Day collections.

This year, Mary Kay has done just that releasing their limited edition 'Men's Fragrance Travel Collection' featuring five travel sized bottles of their best selling men's fragrances, just in time for Father's Day.

The set, which comes in an elegant looking black and gold box, contains five 0.33fl oz. sleek, matte-black cologne bottles with large gold writing (is it just me or do these remind you of grenades?).

This set retails for $40 CND and can be purchased on the Mary Kay website. Below is a chart which includes more information on each of the five Mary Kay fragrances featured in the 'Men's Travel Fragrance Collection'.

Will be you checking out Mary Kay's new limited edition Men's Travel Fragrance Collection' this Father's Day? Is this the sort of gift your father/husband would like? Have you tried any of the individual Mary Kay men's fragrances? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Givenchy 'Gentlemen Only' (Father's Day Gift Idea)

Hey Everyone,

When it comes to Father's Day, my Dad is, officially, the most difficult man to shop for. Due to the fact that he already has everything he needs, and the things he wants (a 1953 convertible, an electric golf caddy) are way out of my budget, I am always at a loss.

Luckily, this year Givenchy has my Father's Day gift giving problems covered with their latest men's fragrance, 'Gentlemen Only'. A combination of green mandarin, pink pepper, nutmeg, birch leaf, cedar wood, patchouli and musk, 'Gentlemen Only' smells clean, slightly musky and very masculine (this cologne seriously smells amazing!).

"This fragrance embodies the essential virtues of being a gentle courtesy, elegance, and chivalry. It is modern yet timeless, capturing the essence of a man who is witty, intelligent, and exceeds effortlessly in all aspects of life.

Gentlemen only is a distinct, deliberate and charming fragrance. It is deliciously disconcerting with its blend of freshness, sensuality and masculine qualities"

Givenchy's 'Gentlemen Only' retails for $67CND/50ml, $88CND/100ml and can be purchased at The Bay, Shoppers Drugmart and Sephora.

Is your father/husband difficult to shop for? What is your go to Father's Day gift? Will you be having a look of Givenchy's new 'Gentlemen Only' fragrance? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

My Top 5 Summer Accessories Under $30 (Guest Post)

Hi Everyone,

While Alicia is having fun in Nashville she asked a few of her favourite bloggers to do a guest post on her blog; I, Amber of Canadian Fashionista, am honored to be one of them. She told me I could blog about whatever I wanted as long as it ties into fashion. What better way to kick off summer than my top my accessories for under $30?

#1: A Chic Hat
I feel every women needs a good sun hat in the summer, not only for those lazy days around the pool and beach but on those days when you just want to feel extra chic. I love the idea of a large floppy wide brimmed hat, not only because it’s super fashionable but because it protect your hair and face from inclement weather. This summer staple will go with everything in your wardrobe, from a cute sundress, to a casual tee and shorts or dress it up with a maxi, anything goes. It’s also great for those extra hot days when you don’t want to blow dry or flat iron your hair; it hides any greasy roots you may have. My chic floppy hat is from Roxy and retails for $28.

#2: A Mini Purse
How many of you are attending festivals this summer, outside BBQ’s, concerts or any other fun activities like the beach/ pool where you don’t want to be lugging around oversized, bulky handbags? A mini cross-body bag might be the perfect option for you; not only is it smaller, forcing you to carry only your essentials like a credit card, keys, ID, a lip gloss and maybe your camera, but its versatile at the same time. You can have it for a day of relaxing at the beach and then take it out for cocktail hour with friends on the patio.  I love the confidence you get knowing it won’t get in your way and that you don’t have to waste a hand holding it when you should be using both hands for more important things, like an ice cream cone in one and a cold Corona in the other. As an added bonus you don’t have to worry about someone trying to steal it, makes it kind of difficult to swipe your goodies when it’s over your shoulder.  I opted for a pop of colour with my bag, it’s from Target and retails for $29.99.

#3: Stylish Sandals
Nothing screams summer as a cute pair of stylish sandals; one of the hottest trends in shoes this season is animal print. Animal print never seems to go away, each year it gets stronger and stronger and when done right can be perfect for any event you have to attend this summer. Sandals can be both chic and comfortable while be versatile to wear pretty much anywhere and is a great way to show off your awesome pedi. I do believe flat sandals offer the right amount of comfort and style and a price everyone can afford. Look for little details on them like the leopard strip on mine, found at Target for only $24.99

#4: Statement Sunglasses
Sunglasses have always been a statement piece and can change the look of your face instantly, all while protecting your eyes from the sun. This season is all about colour and for those of you that are afraid to embrace colour in your clothing, why not do it in a bold pair of shades? Finding a fun and exciting pair that suites your style shouldn’t be that difficult this year with so many choices to pick from. They now come bedazzled, patterned, printed, different shapes, sizes and colours along with different lenses, mirrored being my favourite this season. If you’re anything like me, you’ll lose or break them within weeks, so I usually look for inexpensive ones, like these blue sunnies from Smart Set retailing for $12.

#5: Bold Jewelry
Last item on my list would be a bold piece of jewelry, not only can it be worn to formal events but can take a pair of jean shorts and a tee to the next level, very chic and easy all in one step. My beautiful necklace is from Cocoa Jewlery, not only does it look expensive, it can be worn with pretty much everything and retails for $30.

Tell me, what are your top 5 summer essentials when it comes to accessories?
