October Favourites

Hey Everyone,

Happy Hallowe'en. I hope you all had a wonderful night trick or' treating, handing out candy, partying or just relaxing in bed like me (I've been slightly under the weather the past couple of days). Since today is the last day of October (holy crap!), I thought I would take a moment to share my October favourites video with you. Enjoy!

Kat Von D 'Spellbinding Lipstick Set' (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

This holiday season, tattoo artist turned cosmetic superstar, Kat Von D wants to make your pout pretty with her new Spellbinding Lipstick Set featuring ten of her raved about Painted Love Lipsticks. Pigmented to the max, the Painted Love Lipsticks are long lasting, and enriched with vitamins A, C and E, which are said to keep lips smooth and hydrated throughout the day.

With a variety of bright, vampy and neutral shades to choose from, the new Spellbinding Lipstick Set features two lipstick formulations, matte and foiled, and comes with the following colours:

1) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Love Craft':
A matte pink-nude with slight peach undertones, 'Love Craft' is for me, the perfect shade of nude, working nicely with my pale complexion.

2) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Vampira':
A deep, matte wine with both red and purple undertones, 'Vampira' takes vampy to the next level and I, for one, am obsessed!

3) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Ritual':
A matte terracotta-nude with peach undertones, 'Ritual' is super creamy and, one of those shades that will look great on a variety of skin tones.

4) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'A Go-Go':
A bold, matte, 'traffic cone' orange, 'A Go-Go' is slightly frightening, but makes for a beautiful, unexpected pop of colour with any fall look (imagine this with copper and/or plum eyes!).

5) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'L.U.V.':
A deep, matte violet with strong blue undertones, 'L.U.V' is, by far, the most pigmented purple lipstick I have ever tried.

6) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Mau 5':
A deep, matte raspberry-fuschia, 'Mau 5" is the sort of colour that works beautifully throughout the entire year (this would look as nice in the winter as it would in the summer).

7) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Underage Red':
A bright crimson red, 'Underage Red' is the ultimate Kat Von D shade (she always has the most gorgeous red lipstick) and, with its blue undertones, makes teeth look whiter.

8) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Thin Lizzy':
A metallic cranberry with finely milled golden shimmer, 'Thin Lizzy' is like nothing I own, giving lips lips a 'foiled' finish.

9) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Bachelorette':
A matte pinky-red with blue undertones, 'Bachelorette' is deeper and slightly more opaque than 'Underage Red'.

10) Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in 'Backstage Bambi':
A bright, matte, baby pink with blue undertones, 'Backstage Bambi' is fun and girly making it quite different than a lot of the bolder/vampier shades in the collection.

Without a doubt, all of the shades in the spellbinding set are incredibly well pigmented, super opaque and very true to colour (what you see in the tube is what you get on the lips!).  While very creamy and smooth, both the matte and metallic formulas are somewhat drying, so those with dryer lips (like me) will definitely need a balm underneath.

Personally, I love the size of these lipsticks as I find them easier to apply than regular, full-sized lipsticks (you get a more precise application),  and are small-purse friendly.

Overall, I  think the 'Spellbinding Lipstick Set' would make a nice gift for someone who likes a bolder lip look (with a ton of bright and vampy colours, this set is definitely not for the faint of heart).  If you, like me, have always wanted to try one of the Kat Von D Painted Love Lipsticks, this is set gives you a large variety of colours to try out.

The 'Spellbinding Lipstick Set', which includes ten 0.042 oz lipsticks, is available at Sephora both online and in stores, and retails for $47 CND/$39 USD (to compare, one full-sized lipstick is 0.11oz and retails for $23 CND/$19 USD).

What do you think of the new Kat Von D Spellbinding Lipstick Set? Will you be picking one up/gifting one this holiday season? Do you like a bold/vampy lip or do you prefer something a little more neutral? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Fresh 'Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio' (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

This holiday season Fresh Beauty has chapped winter lips covered with their new 'Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio' containing three of their best selling Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments. Proven to keep dry lips moisturized for up to six hours, the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments, which contain SPF 15, blend reparative oils and waxes with real sugar to keep lips nourished, protected and beautifully plumped.

While there was a time I swore I would never pay more than $10 for a lip balm, after trying my first Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment a couple of years ago, I was instantly hooked and have since bought, and used up, many tubes. Not only are these balms incredibly moisturizing (seriously, there's nothing like them), they feel light and silky on the lips, smell incredible (you'll be hard pressed to find a better smelling balm) and protect the lips from harmful UV rays which can aid in making lips drier and more chapped.

While the original Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is great for applying at night, the new 'Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio' is perfect for those who like a little colour with their moisture, as it includes three tinted balms in the following colours:

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in 'Honey':
A sheer warm nude, 'Honey' gives lips a glossy, yet natural 'your lips but better' feel.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in 'Petal':
A dusty rose-pink with heavy brown undertones, 'Petal' is the perfect neutral pink for a variety of skin tones.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in 'Cherry':
A bright pink-red with blue undertones, 'Cherry' gives lips the perfect pop of juicy colour making both skin and teeth look brighter.

L-R: Honey, Petal, Cherry

The new Fresh 'Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio' (which includes three 0.8 fl. oz balms) retails $32 CND/ $28 USD (for reference full sized balms are 0.15 fl oz. and retail for $23 CND/$22.50 USD), and can be purchased at Sephora both online and in stores.

While these balms are on the pricier side, I can truly and honestly say they are worth the extra money (they made it onto my 2012 beauty favourites list). Personally, I think this mini set would make the perfect gift or stocking stuffer for someone who has always wanted to try one of the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments or for someone who loves the original lip treatment and wants to branch out. Of course, it's also a nice treat for your own beauty collection...justification: I can't be bothered by dry lips while shopping for others on my holiday list!

Have you tried any of Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatments? Do you want to? What do you think of Fresh's 'Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Trio'? Will you be gifting it to anyone on your list? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Josie Maran 'Escape to Morocco: Holiday Hair and Body Beautifiers' Set

Hey Everyone,

With the holidays quickly approaching (it's hard to believe October is almost over!), I plan to focus a lot of the upcoming posts on holiday gift ideas (think budget gifts, stocking stuffer ideas, etc), as well as reviews of many of the new, and very exciting, holiday beauty sets. If there are any particular gift idea posts or holiday set reviews you would like to see on Funny Face Beauty, be sure to leave me a comment below.

This holiday season, supermodel turned beauty expert, Josie Mara wants you to 'Get Your Argan On', with her six piece 'Escape to Morocco: Holiday Hair and Body Beautifiers' set. Infused with the moisturizing powers of Argan Oil, the set features a hair serum, hand cream, body butter, cleansing oil, multi-use intensive creamy oil and a bottle of 100% Argan Oil.

" For centuries, Morrocan woman have used Argan oil to cleanse and moisturize their skin. If you can't escape to Morocco for the holidays, you can still enjoy the wonders of the place with these six bestselling body care beautifiers, each infused with 'The Moroccan Miracle Moisturizer'- 100% pure Argan Oil."

Below is more information on each of the six products contained in the 'Escape to Morocco' set:

1) 100% Pure Argan Oil (0.5 fl.oz):
Described as 'an organic multitasking moisturizer loaded with essential nutrients', this bottle of 100% Argan Oil can be applies to the face, body, nails and hair for a quick boost of hydration. Unlike a lot of the Argan Oil products I have used in my hair, the Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil has absolutely no smell (great for those who have issues with fragrance) and leaves skin and hair with a soft and silky, rather than greasy, feel.

2) Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil (1.9 fl. oz):
Described as a 'blend of good oils that dissolve the bad oils such as dirt and makeup', this super hydrating facial oil mixes with water to create a rich, milky cleanser that leaves skin feeling incredibly soft. While, at first, it can be terrifying to use an oil based cleanser on oily/acne prone skin, the Josie Maran Oil Cleanser actually helps balance the skin leaving it squeaky clean and perfectly moisturized.

3) Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum (o.5 fl. oz):
Described as an 'ultra light, never greasy serum that moisturizes and seals split ends', the Argan Oil Hair Serum can be applied to both wet and dry hair. With a light clean scent (this smells much lighter than a lot of the Argan Oil hair products I have used), this oil leaves hair silky smooth and easy to work with (bye bye frizz!).

4) Josie Maran Argan Infinity Intensive Creamy Oil (0.5 fl. oz):
Described as as a 'rich cream that melts into an oil with infinite uses', this vaseline-like moisturizer can be used as a makeup primer, lip balm, hair tamer, hand cream, etc. With a light, somewhat citrusy scent, this creamy oil is a true miracle worker smoothing and moisturizing everything it touches (dry lip sufferers--check this out!).

5) Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Intensive Hand Cream in 'Vanilla Apricot' (1 fl. oz):
Described as 'a light-weight, never greasy, rich hand cream [that] hydrates and smoothes', Josie Maran's Whipped Hand Cream is, surprisingly, my favourite product from the six piece set. While I usually don't like scented hand creams, this particular cream smells incredible (lightly fruity) and leaves hands feeling as soft as a baby's bottom.

6) Josie Maran Whipped Argan Body Butter in 'Vanilla Apricot' (2 fl. oz):
Described as a 'velvety, rich cream infused with Argan Oil for instantly revitalized skin', this body butter works best applied after a hot shower or bath. With a light, slightly fruity scent (yum!), the Whipped Argan Body Butter is not at all greasy (it's a touch sticky) and, like all of the products in the set, leaves skin nicely hydrated.

At $47 CND/$39 USD, the 'Escape to Morocco: Holiday Hair and Body Beautifiers' set is perfect for someone looking to try some of the bestselling products from the Josie Maran line (this was my first time trying anything from the line, and let me tell you, I want more!).

Free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates, all of the products in the set are incredibly rich and moisturizing leaving hair, skin, lips and nails feeling amazing. With six products that have an infinite number of uses, I honestly feel this set would make a great gift for a variety of people on your holiday list (I, for one, would be excited to see this set under my Christmas tree). The Escape to Morocco: Holiday Hair and Body Beautifiers' set is exclusive to Sephora and can be purchased both online and in stores.

Have you tried anything from the Josie Maran line? Do you want to? Can you see yourself giving or getting this set for the holidays? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all having an amazing pre-Hallowe'en weekend. Last night my sister, myself and some friends hit up a local haunted house, and let me tell you, it was so scary! I spent the majority of the trip through the house, clinging on to my friend's arm, closing my eyes and screaming! While I'm not one to usually do 'scary things', it was definitely an adrenaline rush and I will definitely be going back next year.

Tarte 'Off the Cuff Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette' (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

As a beauty blogger and all around makeup addict, I often dream about products I wish would hit the beauty market (nail polish remover for glitter, chalkboard nail polish you can write teeny-tiny messages on, a mini robot that applies both your winged eyeliner and false lashes with ease...). Well, blush lovers unite, I am happy to reveal that one of my beauty dreams has finally come true. I introduce the new limited-edition Tarte 'Off the Cuff Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette' containing not one, not two, not three, not four, but five (YES FIVE!) Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes/Bronzers (cue angels singing now!).

Housed in a sparkly silver and gold case, the new Tarte 'Off the Cuff' palette comes with a super cute leather cuff bracelet with a very girly-looking rose-gold bow that can be wrapped around the palette for safe keeping or worn for a fashionable Kate Spade-esque look (I swear Tarte has been invading my mind!)

Once inside, the new set includes four Amazonian Clay blushes (0.158 oz/each) and one Amazonian clay bronzer (0.158 oz). Made without parabens and phlates, all of the blushes (and bronzer) in this palette are incredibly well pigmented and, while very soft and easy to blend, don't have much (if any) fallout. Like all of Tarte's Amazonian Clay products, these are super long lasting, leaving cheeks with a gorgeous stain for up to 12 hours.  Below is a closer look at all of the shades in the new palette:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Crave' (Limited Edition):
A bold coral-pink with slight red undertones, 'Crave' gives cheeks a beautiful 'I just stood out in the cold for five minutes' flush.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Dazzled' (Regular Line):
A soft, dusty rose with brown and purple undertones and barely visible gold shimmer, 'Dazzled' is the perfect fall neutral and looks beautiful on all skin tones.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Darling' (Limited Edition):
A soft peach with both light pink and orange undertones, 'Darling' is my favourie shade from the new palette as it works as a neutral, pairing nicely with my go-to Fall look: a vampy eye and bold lip.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Dollface' (Regular Line):
A light, but bright pink with blue undertones, 'Dollface' is the ultimate 'Barbie blush', adding a beautiful pop of colour to any look (I personally like to pair this with no eyeshadow, lots of mascara and a bright pink lip).

Amazonian Clay Bronzer in 'Park Ave Princess' (Regular Line):
A matte neutral brown with no orange undertones (hallelujah!), 'Park Ave Princess' is easily blended out for lighter skin tones/a softer look, or can be built up for darker skin tones/a more dramatic look, making it very versatile.

At $50 CND, this blush palette is a steal (individual Amazonian Clay Blushes sell for $31/each), something  each and every 'blush addicts anonymous' member needs in their collection (Hi my name is Alicia, and I am addicted to blush!). While I'm not sure I could manage to buy this and not swatch/play with it, this would make the perfect holiday gift for any makeup loving lady on your list. All of the blushes in this palette are of the highest quality with amazing pigmentation and blend-ability, and like all Amazonian Clay blushes have great lasting power.

You can find the new Tarte 'Off the Cuff Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette' at Sephora both in store and online. Go now! Trust me, these WILL sell out.

What do you think of Tarte's latest holiday palette? Will you be picking one up? Which of the blush colours in the palette would you use first? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

** The product in in this post was sent to me for review purposes. All opinions are 100% honest and my own. I really am that addicted to blush**

Hallowe'en Ready Nails with Avon

Hey Everyone,

While I'm not usually one to celebrate Hallowe'en (you will not find me dressed up and partying at my local bar), this year I am excited to say I will be getting into the spirit of things with a small gathering at my house followed by a trip to the scariest haunted house in my city (possibly the world!). After half crying/half laughing my way through the haunted house last year, I surprised, even myself, with my willingness to go through what I can only describe as a nightmare, again. With people jumping out at me, touching me and screaming at me every 15 seconds, last year's trip through the haunted house seemed never ending. All I can remember is wanting to lie on the floor in a fetal position until all of the scary people went away (sounds like fun, no?).

For those also looking to get into the Hallowe'en spirit this year, Avon has come up with a less frightening way, introducing three new Hallowe'en themed nail art design strips. The new strips, which retail for $12 CND, include 18 strips that apply easily and, with proper care, can last on the nails for a good 5-7 days. Avon's Hallowe'en themed nail strips come in the following three patterns:

Avon Nail Art Design Strips in 'Crazy for Candy':
Matte black strips with miniature yellow, orange and white candy corn pieces, these strips will have you craving your favourite Hallowe'en candy (Mine?...Reese's peanut butter cups).

Avon Nail Art Design Strips in 'Orange You Scared':
Neon orange strips with a mix of small black spiders and black large spider webs, these strips are perfect for scaring any arachnophobic family member of friend (In my case?...My spider fearing sister and her equally scared boyfriend).

Avon Nail Art Design Strips in 'All Webbed Out':
Pearlized white nail strips with large black cobwebs, black spiders and small jewels, these strips are actually quite pretty and definitely the ones I will be sporting for this weekend's gathering.

Will you be getting into the Hallowe'en spirit with Avon's new nail strips? Which of the three above styles would you be most likely to wear? Do you have any plans for Hallowe'en this year? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.
