Friday Face and Nail of The Day

Hey Everyone,

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week, and are looking forward to another weekend. Although I don't have any major plans for today (or the rest of the weekend for that matter), I thought it would be fun to play around with some new beauty products (eyeliner, lip gloss, blush and nail polish), and liked the result enough to share the final look in today's post. While the look isn't over the top or dramatic, it is a lot different than my normal rose gold eye and bare lip look, and I was happy for the chance to re-discover and use one of my all time favourite eyeshadows, MAC's 'Club', a gorgeous green-red/brown duo-chrome that makes for the perfect two shadow look in combination with MAC's 'Soft Brown'. January Favourites (Video)

Hey Everyone,

It's hard to believe that January is almost over, but I, for one, am not complaining as it means we are one step closer to warmer weather. January has been a fun beauty month as I have been able to test out, and fall in love with, a lot of Spring 2014 products. Below is a video showing you all of my favourite items for the month of January. Enjoy! xx

Dior Spring 2014: Trianon Collection (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

With bold pops of colour and soft, pretty pastels, Dior embraces Spring 2014 with their new Trianon Collection. From eyeshadow and blush to lipstick, lipgloss and nail polish, the new collection has something for everyone and introduces new limited-edition shades of some of Dior's most well-known products. Below is a closer look at some of the items from the new Dior Trianon Collection:

Dior 5 Couleur Eyeshadow Palette in '234 Pastel Fontages' ($62 CND/0.17oz):
With four light pastels and one smoky grey, Dior's 'Pastel Fontages' gives eyes a wash of shimmering colour perfect for spring. While all of the shades in this palette are creamy, smooth and fairly pigmented, they do apply quite sheerly, making for a more subtle, rather than a full coverage finish. Below is a closer look at each of the shades in the 'Pastel Fontages' palette:

Top Left: A light iridescent shimmering silver with white undertones.
Top Right: A light, shimmering pastel blue with an iridescent silver sheen.
Middle: A light shimmering beige with an iridescent gold sheen.
Bottom Left: A deep smoky grey with slight silver undertones.
Bottom Right: A light shimmering pinky-peach with an iridescent pink sheen.

While I can appreciate the light pastel shades for spring, this is definitely not my favourite Dior shadow palette as I really wish the shadows had more coverage and a little less shimmer. If you have always wanted to try a Dior eyeshadow palette, I would suggest skipping this one, and checking out a few of the palettes from their permanent line.

Dior Fusion Mono Matte Eyeshadows in 'Céleste', 'Fantaise' and 'Mirage' ($32 CND/0.22oz):
Adding to their popular Fusion Mono line, Dior introduces four permanent and one limited edition matte shades (woohoo!). A spongy, mousse-like texture, these shadows are nicely pigmented, incredibly silky and blending beautifully onto the lid for a smooth finish that can be worn sheerly, or built up for a more intense look. Below is a closer look at three of the new shades:

121 Céleste (limited-edition): A gorgeous soft lilac with neutral grey undertones.
641 Fantaise: A light salmon-peach with neutral undertones.
76 Mirage: A soft medium brown with grey undertones (the perfect crease colour).

While I really like the original, sparkly Fusion Mono shadows, the new matte shades are, in my opinion, even more incredible (they are so soft and easy to work with) and, therefore, a product I would highly recommend checking out.

Dior DiorBlush in '763 Corail' ($44 CND/0.26oz):
A bright, almost neon coral-pink with a slight iridescent pink sheen, Dior's 'Corail' gives cheeks the most beautiful pop of colour. Incredibly well pigmented, soft and creamy, this blush applies like a dream making it one of my all time favourite Dior blushes (it's amazing!). While quite pricy at $44 CND, this blush is Dior at its best, making it a must have in my books.

Dior Rouge Dior Lipsticks in 'Crinoline' and Allégresse' ($36 CND/0.12oz):
Adding to their infamous Rouge Dior line, Dior introduces two new limited-edition shades. Creamy, smooth and incredibly well pigmented, these lipsticks add a serious pop of full-coverage colour to any look, while keeping lips feeling soft and hydrated. Below is a closer look at the two new shades:

351 Crinoline: A bright coral-peach with orange and pink undertones.
774 Allégresse: A bold, almost neon pink with slight blue undertones.

While I love the look of both lipsticks in the tube (and swatched on the back of my hand), Crinoline just doesn't work with my skin tone (Allégresse, on the other hand, looks amazing on) so, I would definitely recommend trying these on before purchase.

Dior Addict Lip Gloss in 'Petillante' and 'Exquise' ($31 CND/0.21oz):
One of my all time favourite Dior products is, without a doubt, the Dior Addict Glosses, so needless to say, I was excited to see the brand add two new, limited-edition shades to their spring collection. Thick, buttery and extremely moisturizing (these feel amazing on), the new Addict Glosses are insanely well pigmented, adding a bold, high-shine finish to the lips. Below is a closer look at the two new shades:

442 Petillante: A shimmering pinky-peach with finely milled iridescent gold and pink shimmer.
772 Exquise: A bright cherry-pink with blue undertones and very finely milled pink shimmer.

If you have yet to try one of Dior's Addict Glosses, now might be the time to do it. With great pigmentation and the most amazing feel, these glosses are, in my opinion, well worth the higher price tag. Seriously, you need one!

Dior Vernis Lacquer Nail Polishes in 'Bloom', 'Bouquet' and 'Porcelaine' ($26 CND/0.33 oz):
If you've been reading my blog for a while now, you know just how much I love my Dior polishes (they are by far my favourite brand of polish). Incredibly creamy and super pigmented, Dior's polishes apply smoothly and opaquely in just one to two coats (usually one), drying quickly for a high-shine finish. Below is more information on the three limited edition shaded added to Dior's Trianon Collection:

777 Bloom: A deep, medium-pink with cherry undertones.
457 Bouquet: A bright peachy-pink with coral undertones.
204 Porcelaine: A soft milky blue.

While 'Bloom' and 'Bouquet' live up to their amazing predecessors, 'Porcelaine' is surprisingly sheer and needs at least three coats for a full coverage finish (something I'm willing to live with for such an amazing colour). If you have yet to try a Dior polish, be sure to add one to your wish list. Trust me, you will fall in love.

Pastel Fontages

Céleste, Fantaise, Mirage, Corail

Crinoline, Allégresse, Petillante, Exquise

Bloom, Bouquet, Porcelaine

The new, limited-edition Dior Trianon Collection is available at Dior counters and Sephora stores nationwide, as well as online at Sephora.com.

What do you think of the new Dior Spring 2014 Collection? Will you be adding any of the products to your wish list? Which of the above products would you most like to get your hands on? Do you prefer pastels or bold hues for Spring? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Clarins Spring 2014: 'Opalescence Collection' Blushes (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

With soft and feminine toned blushes, eyeshadows, lipsticks, lip glosses and more, Clarins' new Spring 2014 'Opalescence Collection' "celebrates the end of winter with a harmony of delicate luminous colours". Aimed at giving the complexion a fresh, rosy glow, the new collection features a stunning Face and Cheek Powder as well as four shades of, what just may be, the silkiest, softest cream blush you've ever felt. Being a complete blush addict (if I could only use one makeup product for the rest of my life, it would, without a doubt, be blush), I was more than a little excited when given the opportunity to test out some of Clarins newest cheek products. After a couple of weeks of testing them out, I am happy to say that they are some of the best blushes I have ever tried (a bold statement, I know) and couldn't wait to share my thoughts and review with you.

Clarins Opalescence Face and Blush Powder ($40 CND/0.3oz):
Encased in the most beautiful opalescent packaging, Clarins' new 'Opalescence Face and Blush Powder' combines three light toned powders (a light peach, a light brown and a light rose) that, when mixed together, can be applied to the entire face or just the cheeks, giving skin a natural, very healthy-looking peach glow. While  I like the effect that all three powders have when mixed together, those wanting a little more 'oomph', can use the rose-toned powder alone to give cheeks a radiant pop of colour.

Incredibly soft and without any chunky shimmer or glitter (the gold overspray disappears after the first couple of uses), Clarins' 'Opalescence Face and Blush Powder' applies smoothly for an even finish that, thankfully, doesn't draw any attention to fine lines or imperfections. While I think this would make a gorgeous peachy powder/blush for lighter skin tones, I'm not sure how well it would show up on darker skin, so I would definitely recommend testing it out before purchase.

Clarins Multi-Blush Cream Blush in 'Peach' and 'Grenadine' ($30 CND/0.1oz):
Incredibly light and silky, Clarins' new 'Multi-Blush Cream Blushes' transform from a cream to a powder upon contact with skin, giving cheeks the most stunning, luminous glow (I am obsessed!). Made with waxes of rose, mimosa, jojoba and sunflower, the new cream blushes help protect skin against dehydration, keeping it looking radiant and bright.

While this blush does dry almost instantly, it remains silky enough to blend out, allowing for a very even, not at all clumpy, finish. While I personally prefer to only use these blushes on my cheeks, they can be applied to lips for a natural looking stain. Below is a closer look at two of the new 'Multi-Blush' shades:

01-Peach: A light pinky-peach with extremely finely milled golden shimmer (it's barely noticeable), 'Peach' gives cheeks an incredibly light, beachy glow.

02-Grenadine: A bright coral-red with extremely finely milled golden shimmer, 'Grenadine' gives cheeks the most beautiful 'I've just been lightly jogging out in the cold', healthy-looking flush.

The new 'Multi-Blush Cream Blushes' are by far the silkiest and softest cream blushes I have ever felt (they are not the least bit sticky or gooey), gliding effortlessly onto cheeks, giving skin the most beautiful glow (seriously it looks amazing on). If you are blush obsessed like me, these are a definite must have, and something I think everyone needs to feel/swatch at least once (you will be pleasantly shocked by the texture).

Opalescence, Peach, Grenadine

The new Opalescence Collection, which also features new eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses and face primers is available at Clarins counters come February.

What do you think of Clarins new Opalescence Collection blush products? Anything you will be adding to your wish list? Which of the three products above would you most like to get your hands on? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Grammy Awards 2014: My Best Dressed Red Carpet Picks

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. My weekend was jam packed with a trip to Toronto to see The Raptors take on The LA Clippers, a coffee and shopping date with a fellow blogger and friend, and a homemade birthday dinner for my Dad (we made gourmet grilled cheese and an apple and butternut squash soup...so good!). Of course, like many of you, my weekend ended watching the 2014 Grammy Awards Red Carpet (I started to watch the Awards show but honestly didn't know who half of the nominees were and quickly got bored).

While it seemed like there weren't as many celebrities walking the red carpet as usual, the majority of those who did, killed it with their fashion choices. From Taylor Swifts and Ciara's gorgeous metallic gowns to Beyonce and Giuliana Rancic's sexy lace ensembles, here are my picks for best dressed on the Grammy Red Carpet.

Taylor Swift in Gucci

Ciara in Pucci

Miranda Lambert in Pamela Roland

Christine Teigen in Johanna Johnson

Giuliana Rancic in Alex Perry

Rita Ora in Lanvin

Amber Rose in Naeem Kahn

Beyonce in Michael Costello

Who were your best dressed picks from last night's Grammy Awards Red Carpet? Anyone who think I should add to my list? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

NEW Soap & Glory 'Sexy Mother Pucker' Shades (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

As you probably know by now, I am absolutely head-over-heels in love with the Soap & Glory brand. From their 'Flake Away' body exfoliator, to their 'The Fab Pore' facial peel, this is one company that knows how to do skin care and body care right. So, I was very eager when given the chance to try two brand-new shades of Soap &Glory's infamous 'Sexy Mother Pucker' lip glosses from the brand's cosmetics line.

Known as the ultimate lip plumpers, Sexy Mother Pucker glosses use lip plumping spheres (SUPERFILL™) that swell to ten times their size when applied, as well as natural plant oil (LIPSWELL™), to give lips a fuller, more voluminous appearance.

Like most lip plumpers, Sexy Mother Pucker glosses do give lips quite a tingle (think light pins and needles), but unlike some of the other plumping products I have tried, they do not hurt, burn or cause me to have any sort of rash (hello Too Faced Color Bombs).

While I'm not crazy about their sticky consistency, I do appreciate that their thicker texture allows for a long wearing, nicely moisturizing finish (these babies aren't slipping off the lips any time soon).

Smelling and tasting of chocolate (umm...yum!), the Sexy Mother Pucker glosses apply smoothly, filling in any fine lines and making lips look va-va-va-voom plump.

Below is a closer look at the two new Sexy Mother Pucker shades:

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss in 'Baby Doll':
An incredibly sheer coral, 'Baby Doll' gives lips a high-shine finish. While I like the way this shade makes my lips look (volume baby!) and feel (tingly and moisturized), I really wish the colour in the tube (a fun, bright, almost neon coral) is what went on the lips.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss in 'Punch Bowl':
A bright, hot pink with blue undertones, 'Punch Bowl' is beautifully pigmented, giving the lips a full wash of colour and a whole lot of volume.

Baby Doll, Punch Bowl

The new Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker glosses retail for $15 CND/7ml and can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart stores nationwide. If you are looking for a gloss with a long lasting finish that will plump you lips without any pain, the Sexy Mother Pucker glosses might just be for you. If you want a very light, sheer finish, check out 'Baby Doll', but if you are like me, and prefer some 'wham-bam colour', I definitely recommend checking out 'Punch Bowl'.

Weight Loss Update: Feeling Frustrated and Determined

Hey Everyone,

It's been awhile since I've posted a weight loss update and figured that since I spent today driving to Toronto and back to see my lap-band surgeon and dietician (and wasn't able to get up a regular beauty post), now would be the perfect time.

To say I have been frustrated with the lack of progress when it comes to my weight loss would be an understatement. After kicking it into ultra-high gear after the holidays, I have yet to lose any weight and instead, have found myself gaining a pound or two. Although I have been 'clean eating' (no white sugar, white flower, processed food) since the middle of September, this past month I decided to be extra strict cutting out any sort of  clean baked good (even those healthy protein muffins I loved), frozen yogurt, etc., and instead have been sticking to small portions (I am only supposed to have a cup of food per meal) of healthy, quality food. Not working!

So, after trying on my own for a while I thought it would be a good idea to see the surgeon who preformed my weight loss surgery and the dietician who works for the company. Having kept a record of everything I'd eaten for the past week including the time I ate it, what I was doing while I ate it, etc, I had hoped the dietician would have a look at it and give me some suggestions for improvement. While I did find some of her ideas helpful (I need to be eating more protein and make sure to combine a protein and a fibre at every meal), I was somewhat hurt by some of her assumptions about my eating habits. After asking me why I had snacked on an apple and peanut butter one afternoon between lunch and dinner, I told her that I had been hungry. Her reply? "No you weren't hungry, you were just doing it to comfort yourself'. When I insisted I actually had been hungry, she once again told me it wasn't the truth, there was no way I could be hungry.

Then it was time to meet with the surgeon. Before having my surgery, my mom and I had asked my surgeon if there could be any underlying medical issues that would be causing me to have issues losing weight (trust me I had tried for years on my own before having surgery). He insisted that there was no medical issues that could cause my problems with weight and said that it was simple math, calories in, calories out. Since I have been doing really well with my eating, we asked again today and got the same answer. He questioned whether or not I was drinking things like 3 high calorie Iced Cappucinos a day and not counting them as real calories (I found this very insulting and felt somewhat stereotyped), and when I stated that I was only drinking water and eating somewhere between 1000 and 1200 calories a day, he told me to cut it back to 800 calories a day. That's when I decided I was on my own.

As much as I really really want to lose this weight, eating only 800 calories a day, is for me, not healthy and not something I am willing to do to my body (my stomach size was not shrunk by the surgery, I just have a band to help control my hunger). I want to lose my weight the right way, eating the right sized portions of the right kind of healthy food. I don't want to deprive or starve myself. That is not the answer.

So, as much as I feel like giving up some days, I am determined more than ever to stick to the healthy way I've been eating (making the few adjustments the dietician recommended), continue doing some exercise (I've been going to aquafit), and prove, not only to myself, but to this surgeon that I can lose the weight the healthy way and that, despite my size, I do know how to make good eating choices. It's going to take a lot of effort and hard work but I have no doubt that eventually I will reach my goal!

As always I so appreciate all of your support. Knowing I have people cheering me on  pushes me to better myself and work that much harder. Thank you!

My Favourite 'Radiant Orchid' Products + Swatches

Hey Everyone,

As most of you probably know by now, 'Radiant Orchid' a gorgeous pinky-purple is Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2014. In high school, 'Radiant Orchid' (or rather, purple) was my absolute favourite makeup shade and, I would lying if I said I didn't rock the purple eyeshadow look to school almost everyday. While I've tended to gravitate towards more neutral toned shadows the past couple of years, purple has remained one of  my favourite shades to wear on my cheeks, lips and nails. Taking inspiration from my past as well as my current beauty routine, I wanted to share my top 9 favourite 'Radiant Orchid' products:

1) Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Flush': One of my all time favourite blushes, Tarte's 'Flush' is incredibly soft and insanely well pigmented meaning only a touch of product is needed for a gorgeous radiant (orchid) flush of colour.

2) MAC Blush Ombre in 'Vintage Grape':  An older blush from one of MAC's limited edition Sping collections, 'Vintage Grape' combines a deep, vampy plum with a lighter lavender for a gorgeous orchid shade that works beautifully in the Fall and Winter.

3) Joe Fresh Nail Polish in 'Violet':  A deep violet with iridescent pink shimmer, Joe Fresh's 'Violet' nail polish applies opaquely in two coats, leaving nails with a stunning high-shine finish.

4) MAC Eyeshadow in 'Vintage Grape':  A deep plummy purple with pink undertones and a hint of iridescent pink shimmer, Vintage Grape is the perfect shade for a colourful, yet slightly vampy smokey eye.

5) MAC Eyeshadow in 'Stars N' Rockets': A light pinky-lavender with a strong iridescent blue sheen, 'Stars n' Rockets' is one of MAC's most interesting colours, and looks incredibly cool (think iridescent deep lavender-blue)  layered on top of a deep black cream shadow or eyeliner.

6) Yaby Eyeshadow in 'es146': A bright fuchsia with strong purple undertones, this cute little eyeshadow (look how tiny it is!) is incredibly soft and very well pigmented making blue eyes (like mine) POP!

7) essence Stay With Me Lipgloss in 'Hottest Pink':  A somewhat deep fuschia with purple undertones and iridescent fuchsia shimmer, essence's 'Hottest Pink' applies thickly giving lips a nice dose of moisture (I love how buttery these glosses feel) and a beautiful pop of colour.

8) Rimmel 60 Second Nail Polish in 'Pulsating':  An iridescent fuchsia-purple with a lighter fuschia sheen, Rimmel's 'Pulsating' applies opaquely in two coats leaving nails with a very cool iridescent finish (this would look amazing paired with the lipstick below.)

9) YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in '#19': My absolute favourite lipstick at the moment, YSL's #19, a bright pinky-purple, is, to me, the definition of 'Radiant Orchid'. Incredibly well pigmented, this lipstick soothes, protects and moisturizes lips leaving them bright and super glossy. Love!!

Flush, Vintage Grape Blush, Hottest Pink, #19

Vintage Grape Eyeshadow, Stars n' Rockets (plain and over black), es146

Violet, Pulsating

What are your favourite Radiant Orchid products? Any you think I need to check out? Will you be trying out any of my favourites? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Mark. Cosmetics Spring 2014 Collection

Hey Everyone,

Despite the cold and nasty winter weather many of us have been suffering through, it seems many makeup brands are starting to tease us with their Spring 2014 collections, giving me hope that warmer weather is on its way. One such company is mark. Cosmetics whose new line of bright, colourful, spring goodies are definitely helping to cure my winter blues. Below is a closer look at some of the new mark. Spring 2014 products:

mark. Chic Frills Powder Blush ($14 CND):
With a beautiful, feminine lacy pattern, mark.'s newest blush combines a light, matte pinky-peach and a satiny neutral-mauve that, when mixed together, give the cheeks a radiant rose-gold glow (so pretty!). Well pigmented, this soft and very blend-able blush has absolutely no glitter or shimmer (yay!), allowing for a natural finish that doesn't draw any attention to imperfections. This is by far my favourite makeup product from the new Spring 2014 line, and I would, therefore, definitely recommend it to any of my fellow blush junkies!

mark. Blush & Bronzer Brush ($10 CND):
I am the first to admit that I have a bit of a problem when it comes to collecting makeup brushes (I always want more!), so I know a good brush when I see one. Unfortunately, mark.'s new Blush and Bronzer Brush just doesn't make the 'good brush' cut. Having tried this flat headed brush with several powder products (blush, bronzer, powder), I found that the bristles are not only scratchy (they could stand to be a lot softer), they shed like crazy leaving me with at least 3-5 black hairs on my face after each use (not a pretty look!).  While Avon/mark. has put out some nice brushes in the past, this is one I wouldn't recommend spending your money on.

mark. Juice Gems High-Shine Lip Gloss ($12 CND):
Adding to their Juicy Gems line, mark. introduces eight new shades of their high-shine, semi-sheer gloss. Smelling and tasting (oh ya, I totally tried it) exactly like delicious fruit, the Juicy Gem glosses have a slightly sticky finish (a good sticky not bad sticky) that leaves lips feeling nicely moisturized and conditioned. While these glosses have a semi-sheer finish, they are nicely pigmented leaving the lips with a plumped, juicy finish (I totally understand the product name). I had the opportunity to test 'Cherry Bomb' , a bright pink with red undertones and 'Mango Tango', a light peach with finely milled gold shimmer, and think both shades are the perfect for Spring.

mark. Flora Fab Makeup Case ($20 CND):
The moment I saw mark.'s new Floral Fab Makeup Case, I fell in love! With a bright floral pattern on top, and a chic black and white chevron stripe on the bottom, this incredibly girly case has two large zippered pockets perfect for cramming (oh ya, I stuff this baby full!) all of your favourite makeup products in. While I do wish the insides were made of a more washable fabric (they are cloth), I will definitely be bringing this on any future travels. It's just so darn cute!

Chic Frills, Cherry Bomb, Mango Tango

The new mark. Spring 2014 collection can be found online at meetmark.com or on the avon.ca website.

What do you think of mark.'s new 2014 offerings? Did any of the products catch your eye? If you could only pick one item from the new collection, what would it be? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

**The products in this post were sent to me for PR consideration. As always my opinions are 100% honest and my own.**
