NEW: 'Neons by OPI' Nail Polish Shades (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

I hope you had an amazing weekend and, for those who are living in Canada, are ready for a fabulous Canada Day tomorrow. I will spending this Canada Day (and the remainder of the week) at my cottage trying to cool off in Lake Huron (we are currently experiencing very high temperatures and lots of humidity).

Just in time for this extreme Summer heat, OPI has released their very first permanent, full-sized collection of bold, bright neon polishes perfect for both fingers and toes. While each of the six polishes in 'Neons by OPI' collection look great on their own, OPI has also introduced a special white base coat 'Put a Coat On!' to help boost each of the neon shades, making them look even more vibrant.

"With hands and feet constantly on display during warmer months, nail lacquer is a must...I am a big fan of bright colours for summer, and 'Neons by OPI' delivers a bold look that pairs perfectly with sun-kissed skin"
 -Suzi Weiss-Fischmass, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP.

Below is a closer look at each of the six shades in the new 'Neons by OPI' collection:

**top two nails with no base, bottom two nails with 'Put A Coat On' base coat**

OPI Nail Polish in 'Life Gave Me Lemons':
A bright, creamy lime green with strong yellow undertones, 'Life Gave Me Lemons' applies beautifully and opaquely in two coats (one if you use it on top of a white base like OPI's 'Put A Coat On'). While I quite like this shade, it does stain the nails a bright yellow, which, unfortunately, can be quite difficult to remove.

**top two nails with no base, bottom two nails with 'Put A Coat On' base coat**

OPI Nail Polish in 'You Are So Outta Lime':
A bright spring green with lime undertones, 'You Are So Outta Lime' applies opaquely in two coats (one if you use it on top of a white base). While this shade is quite bright, I, personally, wouldn't call it a neon, and therefore, think it would work nicely all year long.

**top two nails with no base, bottom two nails with 'Put A Coat On' base coat**

OPI Nail Polish in 'Hotter Than You Pink':
A bright, hot neon pink with an iridescent purple-blue sheen, 'Hotter Than You Pink' is the perfect 'barbie pink' and applies smoothly and opaquely in just two coats (one if you use it on top of a white base).

**top two nails with no base, bottom two nails with 'Put A Coat On' base coat**

OPI Nail Polish in 'Down To The Core-al':
A jelly-based, bright coral with strong red undertones, 'Down To The Coral-' is by far my favourite shade in the new 'Neons by OPI' collection (for me, this is the quintessential Summer polish) applying opaquely in three coats (you can apply it in two coats for a more see-thru jelly finish).

**top two nails with no base, bottom two nails with 'Put A Coat On' base coat**

OPI Nail Polish in 'Juice Bar Hopping':
A jelly-based bright 'traffic-cone orange', 'Juice Bar Hopping' (love the name!) applies beautifully and opaquely in two coats (if you prefer a more sheer, jelly-like finish, you will want to apply just two coats). While this colour is extremely bright, it looks absolutely amazing on tanned skin (my pale body is slowly working on getting some colour).

**top two nails with no base, bottom two nails with 'Put A Coat On' base coat**

OPI Nail Polish in 'Push and Pur-pull':
A jelly based, deep purple with blue undertones, 'Push and Pur-pull' (seriously, OPI names are the best! How can I get a job naming polishes?) is unfortunately somewhat difficult to apply (mind you, I am not at all skilled when it comes to applying nail polish), going on opaquely in three coats (two if you'd like a more sheer, jelly finish).

The new permanent 'Neons by OPI' shades, which each feature OPI's patented 'ProWide Brush', retail for $10.95 CND/each and can be found at professional salons and spas as well as on the OPI website as of the beginning of last month.

What do you think of OPI's new permanent neon shades? Which of the above shades would you most like to get your hands (and nails) on? Any fun plans for Canada Day? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

YSL 'Bleus Lumiére Couture' Eyeshadow Palette (Review + Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

This month, YSL beauty celebrates summer with their new Bleus Lumiére Collection. A 'burst of aquatic tones' mixed with colourful pops of complimenting orange, coral and pink, the new collection features a variety of products (nail polishes, lip glosses, cheek stains), including a brand new, bright and bold eyeshadow palette with five absolutely stunning ready-to-wear shades.

Inspired by 'flashes of sun on water', the new Bleus Lumiére Couture Palette, which comes in the most beautiful turquoise and gold case (seriously, the packaging just screams luxury), mixes both warm and cool shades, in a variety of finishes, that work in combination to create an endless number of both daytime and nighttime summer looks.

"For this collection, my mind wa full of all of the shades of blue that surround us in summer, like the blue of rippling water, reflecting flashes of orange and golden light at the magic hour when the sun sets. It's a rich, intense shade that heights the warm tones of summer and suffuses a soothing feeling of peach and call"
 -Lloyd Simmons, creative director.

Below is a closer look at each of the five shades in the new Bleus Lumiére Couture Palette:

#1: A richly pigmented shimmering peach with both pink and gold undertones and finely milled iridescent gold shimmer, this incredibly soft and creamy shadow applies beautifully (seriously, the quality is amazing!), giving lids an absolutely stunning glow (you could seriously wear this shadow alone with a little mascara and have a gorgeous daytime look).

#2: A beautiful coral-orange with a slight iridescent sheen (this is definitely not as shimmery as the shade above), this super pigmented shadow (seriously, these do not disappoint when it comes to colour payoff) looks beautiful worn in the crease for added definition, complimenting some of the deeper blue shades in the palette.

#3: A deep matte royal blue with purple undertones and a slight iridescent sheen, this creamy, soft and very pigmented shade makes for the perfect smoky summer eye when worn in the outer-v and/or along the upper and lower lash lines.

#4: A stunning (seriously this shade is gorgeous) turquoise blue with a very slight iridescent sheen, this incredibly bright shade looks gorgeous worn along the lower lash and waterline for the perfect pop of summer colour.

#5: A light, slightly minty, frosted aqua blue with finely milled iridescent aqua shimmer, this incredibly well pigmented shadow (seriously, you just need one swipe for maximum colour payoff) is by far my favourite in the palette, giving lids the most stunning, colourful finish (I'm not usually a fan of super bright colours on the lid, but this looks amazing on!).

Having once tried a YSL eyeshadow palette that was in no way pigmented or easy to work with, I didn't have high expectations when it came to the brand's latest palette. Luckily for me, and everyone else waiting to get their hands on this bad boy, the quality of the shadows in the Bleus Lumiére Couture palette are out of this world (seriously the pigmentation is amazing), making this one palette I would very highly recommend.

The new YSL Bleus Lumiére eyeshadow palette retails for $64 CND and can be found at Holt Renfrew, Sephora, Murale and select Hudson Bay stores nationwide.

NOTD: Obsessed Over Hot Pink

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all having a fabulous week, and are planning to have an even more fabulous weekend. This week I had the opportunity to attend a Lancôme event, held at the L'Oreal Academy in Toronto, featuring some of their newest and most innovative products set to be released late Summer/early Fall 2014. While I am not able to show you any pictures at this time (these releases are top secret), one of the most exciting new product launches is Lancôme's new 'Grandiose Mascara' (get excited!). With a champagne-inspired bottle, a swan-neck wand and bent brush, Lancôme's newest mascara gives lashes definition, curl and that on-trend 'fanned out' look.

Of course with any event, one of the biggest questions is what to wear. My decision, a cute little navy and hot pink Summer dress I picked up at Forever 21+ last month. Wanting to play off the dress, I decided to go for a bright, fun nail look using one of my all time favourite neon polishes, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics' 'Anime'.

A super hot pink cream with slight blue undertones, 'Anime' is packed full of pigment, applying smoothly and opaquely in just one to two coats (I went for two in the pictures above). While I was debating between adding a glitter accent nail or keeping the nails all one colour, the lady who does my nails offered to do a small free hand design using a white, navy and sparkly silver polish (obviously, I had to match my dress!). I absolutely love the finished look and was reminded just how much I like OCC's line of nail polishes (I'm not crazy about their lip tars...*gasp*...but their polishes are great!).

What do you think of my neon nail look? Do you think it worked with my dress? Are you excited to try Lancôme's newest mascara? What is your all time favourite neon nail polish shade? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Current Favourites: May/June 2014

Hey Everyone,

First, I would like to apologize for the complete lack of posts last week. As I mentioned previously, my computer crashed while I was away in Nashville and I, unfortunately, lost quite a few of the pictures I had taken for upcoming posts. With that said, I am happy to say I have a brand new computer (fingers crossed this one doesn't give me such a hard time) and am hoping to start posting on a more regular basis again.

For today's post I wanted to share some of my current favourites. While I usually consider myself to be in somewhat of a rut when using the same products every day for over a month, I am so happy with the everyday look I have been doing/products I have been using, I haven't felt a need to change them up. Below is a closer look at all of the products I have been loving this past month:

Urban Decay 'Naked' Eyeshadow Palette:
With all of the new neutral eyeshadow palettes currently on the market, I sometimes forget about what I like to consider the original (and in my opinion best) neutral palette, Urban Decay's 'Naked Palette'. Incredibly well pigmented, creamy and smooth, all of the shadows in this palette apply like a dream, blending effortlessly for a variety of both soft and bold neutral looks. I have been using this palette non-stop for the past couple of months (this is the only eyeshadow palette I took with me to Nashville) and have come up with a simple, natural daily eye look using 'Naked' (crease), 'Sin' (inner corner), 'Toasted' (lid) and 'Hustle' (outer V). While I am sure most of you have this palette by now, if not this is one product I highly recommend and think every beauty lover should have in their collection.

Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Eye Créme:
If you've been reading my blog for a while now, you know that one of my biggest beauty concerns is my under eye area. With dark circles and dry skin, wrinkly skin, for years, my under eye makeup was constantly creasing no matter what I tried. I am so excited to say that I have finally found my under eye miracle product. A mix between a silky, gel like cream and a hydrating concealer, Ole Henriksen's 'Perfect Truth CC Eye Créme' blends beautifully into the skin, instantly covering/brightening dark circles and moisturizing the under eye area without any creasing (amazing!). If you've been struggling with under eye problems like me, this is definitely a product I highly recommend checking out (I found mine at Sephora).

It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil:
A year ago, my brows were a nightmare as I honestly had absolutely no idea what I was doing when it came to filling them in. Luckily for me, I recently discovered It Cosmetics' 'Brow Power' Universal Brow Pencil (I bought mine at Ulta but I believe you can find them on the It Cosmetics website). With an amazingly firm spoolie (its the best spoolie I've ever used) and a universal pencil shade (press lightly if you have lighter toned brows, more heavily if your brows are darker), It Cosmetics' 'Brow Power' is super soft and easy to use even for those, who like me, are completely inept when it comes to doing your brows.
Real Techniques 'Miracle Complexion Sponge':
I've been a die hard 'Beauty Blender' girl for years up until discovering Real Technique's new 'Miracle Complexion Sponge' last month. Incredibly soft, this sponge expands when wet allowing for a perfectly blended and smooth, airbrushed finish. Unlike the beauty blender, the 'Miracle Complexion sponge' has both a round and a flat side allowing for easier application and contouring. At only $9.99, I think this sponge is a complete steal, and highly recommend it to anyone who has been wanting to try the beauty blender but doesn't want to pay such a high price (I can honestly say this sponge is just as good, if not better).

NARS Powder Blush in 'Mata Hari':
After receiving some Sephora gift cards for my birthday from a couple of close friends, I decided to pick up a couple of new blushes (of course, what else would I use the cards on?!), including NARS's 'Mata Hari'. Described as a 'rose petal pink', this super pigmented, matte blush gives cheeks the perfect, natural looking, rosy flush. I am a huge fan of all of NARS's blushes and 'Mata Hari' has definitely made it to the top of my 'must have' list.

MAC Cosmetics Extra Dimension Skinfinish in 'Superb':
While I try not to share the same favourites month after month, MAC's Extra Dimension Skinfinish in 'Superb' is one product I just can't stop raving about (seriously, so far this has been my favourite beauty discovery of 2014). A metallic rose-gold (we all know how much I love my rose gold), this insanely beautiful highlighter glides on to cheek bones giving them the most stunning, 'lit-from-within' glow. While this was a limited edition product (I seriously should have purchased a back up!), I am hopeful MAC will re-release it, and highly suggest you pick it up if, and when, they do.
MAC Cosmetics 'Turquatic' Perfume:
It's not often I find a new perfume I absolutely fall in love with (I find most fragrances to be too powdery or florally for my liking), but that is exactly what happened the first time I smelled MAC's 'Turquatic Perfume' (my sister also fell in love after using mine and now has her own bottle). A sea-inspired scent with notes of 'Anemone, Lotus, Orris and Corsican Blue Cedar', 'Tuquatic' has a fresh, natural, slightly sweet smell absolutely perfect for Summer.

Mata Hari, Superb

What do you think of my current favourites? Have you tried any of the above products? Are there any you really want to try? What are your current favourites? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

New: mark. Cosmetics Body Scrubs in 'Dreaming of Jasmine' and 'Crushing on Coconut'

Hey Everyone,

Just in time for short, tank top and swimsuit season, mark. Cosmetics has released four new, amazingly scent body scrubs. Using sugar cane extract to gently exfoliate and cleanse, the new scrubs condition skin, leaving it looking and feeling smoother and softer (after this crazy cold winter, my skin is very much in need of this).

Unlike a lot of the exfoliators I have used in the past that come in large jars or tubs (I love them, I just drop and spill them all the time), mark.'s new 'Body Scrubs' come in an easy to grip, squeezable tube making them shower friendly (especially for a 'butter hands' klutz like me).

Below is a closer look at two of the new mark. Body Scrubs:

mark. Cosmetics 'Dreaming of Jasmine' Body Scrub ($14CND/200ml):
While I am not usually a fan of more floral scents, I can honestly say I am absolutely in love with mark.'s new 'Dreaming of Jasmine' Body Scrub. A soft, warm, slightly musky scent made from a blend of jasmine petals, peach and vanilla, 'Dreaming of Jasmine' is by no means overpowering, giving skin a soft, smooth, incredible smelling finish.

mark. Cosmetics 'Crushing on Coconut' Body Scrub ($14 CND/200ml):
To know me is to know my love for all that is coconut (seriously my shower gel, moisturizer and current perfume are all coconut scented), so it came as no surprise just how much I like mark.'s new 'Crushing on Coconut' Body Scrub. Made from a blend of coconut cream, mandarin and fresh orchids (amazing!), 'Crushing on Coconut' is the quintessential summer scent (it smells like the beach!) and one I recommend every coconut lover check out.

mark.'s new Body Scrubs, which also come in 'Sweet on Lemon Sugar' (need it!) and 'Passionate for Plumberry' are available via the avon website as of the beginning of this month.

Will you be picking up one of mark.'s new Body Scrubs? Which of the scents above would you most like to get your hands on? What is your all time favourite Summer scent? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

My Top 3 Nashville Outfits

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all having an amazing week. I am finally back from a 10 day whirlwind trip to Nashville, and while I am sad to no longer be in the birth place of country music, I am excited to get back to blogging (unfortunately my computer crashed while I was away so it may take a couple of days before I am back to regularly posting). Nashville was, surprisingly, not as hot as previous years and so I didn't find myself changing outfits as often as I thought I would need to (ya, I totally overpacked). With that said I did manage to wear a number of different pieces and accessories and wanted to share three of my favourite looks with you.

One of the first new clothing items I picked up for my trip to Nashville was this jean dress from Addition-Elle. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you choose to see it), I did lose a significant amount of weight before my trip, making this dress less fitted and more 'sloppy'. I do have plans to have it taken in a little and can't wait to rock it all summer. I'm not much of an insect fan (I don't hate them, but I don't usually choose to wear them), but when I saw these bee earrings on the Ali Express website, I just had to have them. While my family didn't necessarily agree with my jewelry choices, I, personally, love the earrings.

 Dress: Addition-Elle
Watch: Ali Express
Floral Bangle: Addition-Elle
Gold and White Bangles: Forever 21
Studded Bangle: Henri Bendel
Earrings: Ali Express

One of my favourite things to do while in Nashville is go to the CMT Awards. After a long day of standing outside, trying to meet some of our favourite country artists (we managed to take pictures with a few), I didn't have much time to get ready and so I decided to throw on a simple t-shirt-esque white and navy striped dress and my most controversial necklace. While I personally love the long neon choker style look, my Mom and sisters did not ("it's so weird!").

Dress: Forever 21
Necklace: Ali Express
Studded Bangle: Henri Bendel
Gold Bangles: Forever 21

I absolutely love a good maxi dress for Summer, so when I found this piece at Forever 21 last month, I knew it had to be mine. Paired with an old jean vest and a ton of chunky bangles and bracelets, I like to think this look is 'country chic' (too bad I was stuck outside in a downpour just hours after taking these pictures).

Dress: Forever 21
Jean Vest: Penningtons
Sunglasses: Target
Purse: Target
Necklace: BCBG
Watch: Ali Express
Daisy Bracelet: Forever 21
Studded Bangle: Henri Bendel
Bangles: Forever 21

What do you think of my top 3 Nashville outfits? Which outfit is your favourite? What do you think about my jewelry choices? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Bold Orange Lip Look (Guest Post)

**While I am away I have asked some of my favourite beauty and fashion bloggers to guest post on Funny Face Beauty. Today's post is from Leticia of Cosmetics Aficionado, whose bold looks always have me wanting to play with my makeup collection. Today, Leticia shows us how to pull off a bold orange lip just in time for Summer.**

What Do Your Lips Say About You?

I recently talked about this on social media and you may have seen other beauty bloggers talking about it. Milani Cosmetics recently held a contest asking people to show what their lipstick says about them (entries are now closed).

I super duper love orange lips, so I chose a pretty tame overall makeup look except for my statement lips in orange. They aren't announcing the finalists until June 20th, but I have my fingers and toes crossed that I made the final cut. Even if I didn't make it to the final round, I still wanted to create a post around this look, as it is really fitting for summer.

Sephora Microsmooth Powder Foundation
Covergirl TruMagic Primer
Neutrogena Oil Control Foundation
Guerlain Terracotta Mineral Bronzer

Urban Decay Bootycall on the lid
MAC Soft brown and Swiss Choclate in the crease
MAC Brule on the brow bone
Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade

What Not To Wear If You've Got Short Legs: The Midi Dress (Guest Post)

**While I am away I have asked some of my favourite beauty and fashion bloggers to fill in on Funny Face Beauty. Today's post is from Elise of Blush Is the New Black, one of the best dressed ladies I know. While today's post has to do with a dress Elise personally doesn't think works with her body, I think she looks fabulous as always!**

Hey Everyone,

Every once in a while, I like to try something new. We're not talking big changes here - just a different dress length. Baby steps, my friends.

I've always worn mini and maxi dresses but have recently been intrigued by this midi trend. I found a marled midi dress from Forever 21 and since the price is always right at that store, I thought I would give it a try.

Let me know if this happens to you too: you rip off the tag and it's only after the item is no longer returnable, you realize your true feelings towards the item. That was the case with this dress. I thought it looked decent so I took off the tag. As soon as I tore off the tag, I decided to try the dress on with different pairs of shoes. Oops. Didn't like this dress as much as I thought I did.

I think these types of dresses may look better on girls with normal or shorter torsos. I have a long torso and short legs, and this dress definitely accentuated my long torso. I'm all for loving your body, but this dress made my hips and butt look like it was so low down on my body and made me feel like my legs resembled adorably puny corgi legs. In retrospect, pairing this dress with a chunky or block heel would have been a better option.

Speaking of trying new things - I am typically such a plain dresser from top to bottom. Almost everything I wear is a neutral colour. I never thought I would buy a pair or mirrored aviators, let alone pick the green pair. I suppose change isn't so bad. You win some, you lose some.

Outfit details:

Sam Edelman Gigi
Louis Vuitton Speedy 35
Ray Ban sunglasses

If you'd like to see more outfits (the kind that don't accentuate short legs), my blog has some of that and my Instagram has a whole lot more of that.

Thanks so much for reading and thank you so much to the wonderful Alicia for giving me the opportunity to do another guest post!
