NEW: Lancôme Grandiôse Mascara Review

Hey Everyone,

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm not one who easily gets excited about mascara. With short, stubby lashes, I have yet to find my holy grail mascara, and while there are some I quite like, there's nothing that really 'wows' me. Well, I am happy to say, all that has changed with the recent launch of Lancôme's new 'Grandiôse Macara'. With a unique swan neck, a perfectly shaped elastomer brush and a formula that beautifully separates, lengthens and volumizes lashes, Lancome's newest mascara will, without a doubt, change your views on mascara and more importantly, mascara application.

"Grandiôse represents a genuine avant-garde re-interpretation of mascara, fulfilling every woman's expectations with a simplified application technique for multi-benefit results with nothing more than a flick of the wrist. With Grandiôse, Lancôme gives every woman-makeup novice or seasoned pro- the most irresistible of eyes whatever her age or ethnicity"

Below is a closer look at Lancôme's new 'Grandiôse Mascara':

The Bottle
With bold, voluptuous curves and Lancôme's signature rose design, Lancôme's new 'Grandiôse Mascara' bottle is not only stunning (this is hands down the most gorgeous mascara packaging I have ever seen), it was designed to allow the dual-curved brush to automatically mix the mascara every time the bottle is opened, allowing for a fresh,  clump-free formula during every application.

 The Swan Neck
The first of its kind, Grandiôse's patent-pending, revolutionary 'swan-neck wand' adapts to the eye's natural curves allowing for easy access and application to all of the lashes from corner to corner and root to tip. Short and twisted, the new ergonomic wand effortlessly reached the second eye (as Lancôme says 'gone are the days of wrist gymnastics'), while avoiding the nose, cheekbones and eyebrow arch (a huge bonus for someone, who like me, always winds up with mascara smudges on their nose').
The Brush
With a short elastomer brush (I am a huge fan of mascaras with plastic brushes) designed to 'extend and lift even the shortest lashes', Lancôme's 'Grandiôse Mascara' helps separate lashes while adding incredible length (this mascara does amazing things for my short, stubby lashes) and volume. While I am not usually one to apply mascara to my lower lashes (I find it so messy and time consuming), I absolutely love how this brush makes lower lash application so easy (there is no smudging or clumping), and have started wearing it on a more regular basis.

The Formula
With three transparent polymers to create a protective film without stiffening lashes, Grandiôse's ultra-black formula (the colour is intensely black) uses native rose cell extract to condition lashes making them supple, softer and more resistant. While I found the formula to be a little too wet the first time I used it, after a couple of days use, the mascara dried out a little (its not dry and flaky by any means), making it absolutely perfect for a smudge-free application.

While I tend to be more of a drugstore mascara girl (I've never understood spending a lot of money on a mascara when there are so many lower priced options on the market), I have to say Lancôme's new 'Grandiôse Mascara' is my new mascara of choice (it does amazing things to both my upper and lower lashes), making it a product I would very highly recommend checking out.

Lancome's new Grandiôse Mascara retails for $35 CND and can be found at Lancôme counters and the Lancôme website as of August 15th, 2014.

What do you think of Lancôme's new Grandiôse Mascara? Are you a fan of the swan-neck wand? Is this a product you plan to pick up? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

My ILLAMASQUA Blush Haul ('The Bay' Sale)

Hey Everyone,

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I am an absolute blush fiend and, as ridiculous as it may sound, blush truly is the way to my heart (okay flowers and chocolate don't hurt either). So, when I saw on MaggiesMakeup's instagram that The Bay Canada had a number of ILLAMASQUA products on sale on their website, I immediately ran to my computer (trust me, it was a full on sprint, not just a light jog) to see if any of the blushes I have long been coveting were on sale.

Well, I am more than happy to say that the 'Makeup Gods' were shining down on me that day as I managed to score not one, not two, but three of ILLAMASQUA's regularly priced cheek products for 25% off the original price (making them a total of $19.50 CND/each).

Below is a closer look at each of the absolutely gorgeous ILLAMASQUA products I picked up:

ILLAMASQUA Gleam Highlighter in 'Aurora':
To Gleam or not to Gleam, that is the question. The answer? Heck yes! A gorgeous iridescent champagne with extremely finely milled gold shimmer, ILLAMASQUA's  Gleam Highlighter in 'Aurora' gives cheeks the most stunning lit-from-within glow. Incredibly soft and creamy (seriously, this feels like butter on the skin), 'Aurora' blends effortlessly into the skin, leaving behind a slightly dewy (not at all oily) finish.

ILLAMASQUA Powder Blush in 'Naked Rose':
A soft nude-pink with brown undertones, ILLAMASQUA's 'Naked Rose' is the quintessential neutral blush for any skin tone. Extremely well pigmented, this incredibly soft and creamy blush blends effortlessly onto the cheeks leaving behind absolutely no fallout or powdery build-up (the ILLAMASQUA blush formula is out of this world amazing!).

ILLAMASQUA Powder Blush in 'Chased':
A bright rose-pink with both blue and red undertones, ILLAMASQUA's 'Chased' is definitely not for the faint of heart (if you prefer a more subtle blush, I'd stick with 'Naked Rose'). Extremely well pigmented (a very little goes a long, long way), this soft and creamy blush blends beautifully into skin, giving cheeks a healthy looking 'I've just run to my computer to look at the ILLAMASQUA sale' flush.

Aurora, Naked Rose, Chased

As of this afternoon, The Bay website still had a ton of ILLASMASQUA products on sale, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't eyeing a few of their eyeshadow quads and lip glosses (must show restraint...). If you've been waiting to get your hands on some of the UK brand's most popular products, I highly suggest you check out the sale here

What do you think of my ILLAMASQUA picks? Which of the above blushes/highlighter is your favourite? What is your most coveted ILLAMASQUA product? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Dior Fall 2014 '5 Couleurs Collection': Part Two (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

This fall, Dior beauty reinvents its legendary eyeshadow palette as part of their '5 Couleurs Collection'. Graced with new textures and effects, the new 5 Couleur eyeshadow palettes come in a slimmer, navy blue case and focus on Dior's five favourite colours: red, grey, pink, black and blue.

"At the centre of the palette, the essential shade sets the tone. Around it four accessory shades create the style for a multi-faceted eye".

Like all Dior eyeshadow palettes, the upper trio of eyeshadows are grouped together to create a softer, more natural daytime look, while the bottom trio provides for a more dramatic, sultry look (of course, you can create your own combinations with each palette).

To complete the new Fall 2015 5 Couleurs Collection, Dior has selected a Dior Rouge lipstick and Dior Vernis nail polish to co-ordinate with, and 'accessorize' each of the five new eyeshadow palettes, creating the following sets: Bar Grey, Tutu Pink, Carré Bleu, Trafalgar Red and Pied-de-Poule Black.

Below is a closer look at the two remaining Dior 5 Couleurs sets (see the other three sets here.).

Trafalgar Red
"Tantalizing red reveals its raw energy on eyelids, alone or with a hint of sparkling gold, sophisticated chocolate brown, platinum or pale pink. This is a sensual and liberated 'Trafalgar' for the eyes. Lips and nails follow suit in 'Massai' red for radical elegance"

Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in '876 Trafalgar' ($61 CND):
My favourite eyeshadow palette from the new Dior Fall 2014 Collection (just look at it!), '878 Trafalgar' combines rusty red, chocolate brown, antique gold and two pearly highlight colours, perfect for both daytime, and nigh time,  autumn-inspired looks. Below is a closer look at each of the shades in the '876 Trafalgar' palette:

1) A light shimmering iridescent pink with iridescent pink and silver shimmer, this shade is incredibly sheer making it somewhat difficult to work with.

2) An opalescent beige with an iridescent pink sheen and finely milled iridescent shimmer, this extremely unique shade is beautifully pigmented making for a great all-over-lid and highlight colour.

3) A beautifully pigmented, deep rust red with a slight iridescent sheen (it comes off as more of a matte when swatched), this super creamy shade applies and blends beautifully making for a very unique eye look.

4) A shimmering antique gold with slight olive undertones, this incredibly creamy, nicely pigmented colour makes for a stunning all-over-lid shade, especially on blue eyes.

5) A deep chocolate brown with strong plum undertones and a slight iridescent sheen, this amazingly well pigmented shade is by far my favourite in the '876 Trafalgar' making for an absolutely beautiful smoky eye.
Dior Vernis in '853 Massai' ($26 CND):
A deep, rich red with slight burgundy undertones, this stunning polish (I think this is my favourite nail polish from the new Fall collection) applies beautifully and opaquely in just one to two coats. Like all of Dior's nail polish, '853 Massai' has a uniquely tapered brush which allows for easy application.

Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in '869 Rouge Massai' ($36 CND):
A bold cool-toned red with blue undertones, '869 Rouge Massai' is incredibly creamy and moisturizing giving lips an opaque, high-gloss finish. While I love this shade, I personally don't like the way it pairs with the '876 Trafalgar' palette, and would be more likely to wear it with a neutral, brown or grey smoky eye.

Trafalgar eyeshadow palette, Massai lipstick, Rouge Massai nail polish

Pied-de-Poule Black
"It is chic, modern and powerful. It is the favourite (non) colour of artists and photographers...At the heart of the 5 Couleurs palette in 'Pied-de-Poule', a fundamental chromatic framework is drawn in black. In turn, matte, velvet, iridescent, metallic, with facets of red, blue and green - or, quite simply charcoal. Dior has established a multitude of blacks, and is printing the codes of powder dressing for 2014, on the skin. A smoky eye, a wine-coloured lip and a grey-beige manicure mean up-front glamour"

Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in '096 Pied-de-Poule' ($61 CND):
With deep smoky charcoal, forest green and black, Dior's '096 Pied-de-Poule' palette had the potential to be the perfect dramatic palette for a night out. Unfortunately, with three of the five shades lacking in pigmentation, this is my least favourite palette from the new Dior Fall 2014 Collection. Below is a closer look at each of the shades in the '096 Pied-de-Poule' palette:

1) A deep smoky charcoal with slight blue undertones and very finely milled silver shimmer, this very well pigmented shade makes for a stunning smoky eye.

2) A light beige with large flecks of iridescent gold shimmer, this shade is, in my opinion, too sheer and glittery to use as a highlight and instead looks nice packed on the centre of the lid for an added touch of sparkle.

3) A nicely pigmented, deep matte black, this shade works nicely as an eyeliner.

4) A matte black with purple undertones, packed full of green and gold glitter, this shade, unfortunately, lacks pigmentation and has a lot of fallout, making it difficult to work with.

5) A deep, almost black forest green with gold shimmer, this shade is, unfortunately, very dry and lacks pigmentation, making it difficult to work with.
Dior Vernis in '206 Pied-de-Poule' ($26 CND):
A stone grey cream with both brown and purple undertones, this gorgeous neutral polish applies opaquely in just two coats. Like all of Dior's nail polishes, '206 Pied-de-Poule' has a uniquely tapered brush that allows for easy application.

Dior Rouge Dior in '977 Pied-de-Poule' ($36 CND):
A deep burgundy-red with brown undertones, '977 Pied-de-Poule' is the perfect vampy lip colour for fall. Nicely pigmented, this moisturizing lipstick leaves lips with an opaque, glossy finish.

Dior's new Fall 2014 5 Couleurs Collection is available at Dior counters and Sephora stores as of August 1st.

Dior Fall 2014 '5 Couleurs Collection': Part One (Review+Swatches)

Below is a closer look at three of the new Dior 5 Couleurs sets (the remaining two sets will be featured in an upcoming post).

Bar Grey
"This season, Dior has created a new, terribly desirable grey, that is both elegant and casual making modern girls beautiful. Blend black and white, add a dose of asphalt and highlight with pearly pink. Alternate between matte, pearly and iridescent finishes. Indulge in texture, without worrying about lacking good taste. A hint of icy pink on your lips is heightened by deepest black on your nails"

Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in '056 Bar' ($61 CND):
The most neutral of Dior's new 5 Couleurs palettes, '056 Bar' combines rich smoky greys and taupes, a deep matte black and two pearly highlight shades for a variety of, both, more subtle daytime looks, and more dramatic nighttime looks. Below is a closer look at each of the five shadows in the '056 Bar' palette:

1) A deep smoky grey with blue undertones and finely milled iridescent shimmer, this beautifully pigmented shadow is incredibly soft and creamy, applying and blending beautifully onto lids.

2) An icy, slightly frosted white with iridescent gold, green and red shimmer, this nicely pigmented shade works beautifully as an inner corner highlight (personally this shade is a little too frosty for a brow bone highlight).

3) A shimmering taupe with strong purple undertones and a slight iridescent sheen, this super creamy, extremely well pigmented shadow is, by far, my favourite from the new '056 Bar' palette.

4) An extremely light, frosted pink with iridescent shimmer, this shade, while sheer, works beautifully as a brow bone highlight.

5) A deep smoky, matte black this incredibly well pigmented shade works nicely as both an eyeliner and crease colour, creating a more sultry, dramatic look.

Dior Vernis in '902 Bar' ($26 CND):
A deep black cream with a beautiful high-shine finish, Dior's '902 Bar' nail polish applies beautifully and opaquely in just one to two coats. Like all of Dior's line of nail polishes, Bar has a uniquely tapered brush, which allows for easy application.

Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in '317 Bar' ($36 CND):
A nude beige with strong grey undertones and iridescent silver shimmer, '317 Bar' is one of the most unique lipsticks I have ever tried. While extremely pale, this shade looks surprisingly nice on my lips (I usually can't pull off nude lipsticks), leaving them with a beautiful glossy finish. While Dior's Rouge Dior lipsticks are said to be moisturizing, I personally find this shade to be a little on the dry side and would, therefore, recommend using a lip balm before application.

Bar eyeshadow palette, Bar lipstick, Bar nail polish

Tutu Pink
"Like a promise of happiness, youth and flushed cheeks, Dior has created an autumnal pink. A touch of 'tutu' pink on the lips. The same on your nails. A smoky eye in pale, pearly, grey drawn on with a brush. An evanescent halo of colour applied with the fingertips, or a futuristic line drawn on with a brush. Or, as a dramatic colour block-pink has never been so bold."

Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in '846 Rose Tutu' ($61 CND):
A unique take on fall, Dior's new '846 Rose Tutu' palette combines beautiful shimmering pastel pinks, peaches and purples for a soft, very feminine daytime look (personally I don't think the palette has enough smoky colours for a true nighttime look). Below is a closer look at each of the five shades in the new 'Rose Tutu' palette:

1) A light, slightly frosted peach with finely milled iridescent shimmer, this beautiful shade, while sheer, gives eyes a wide-eyed effect when worn on the lid or inner corner.

2) A light, frosted lilac, this super creamy, beautifully pigmented shade makes for a nice all-over-lid colour.

3) A deep rose pink with large chunks of gold glitter, this shade, while pigmented, creates a lot of fall out, making it my least favourite colour in the '846 Rose Tutu' palette.

4) A light baby pink with an iridescent purple sheen, this super creamy, beautifully pigmented shadow is by far my favourite from the '846 Rose Tutu' palette and works nicely as both an all-over-lid and highlight colour.

5) A frosted lavender with a gorgeous iridescent sheen, this nicely pigmented shade works in both the crease and along the lower lash line, making for a slightly more dramatic look.
Dior Vernis in '254 Rose Tutu' ($26 CND):
A gorgeous coral pink with peach undertones, this insanely well pigmented nail polish applies evenly and opaquely in just one to two coats. Like all of Dior's polishes, '254 Rose Tutu' has a uniquely tapered brush that allows for easy application.

Dior Rouge Dior in '354 Rose Tutu' ($36 CND):
A gorgeous coral pink with slight peach undertones, this extremely moisturizing lipstick applies beautifully for an opaque, glossy finish. While these lipsticks claim to be long wearing, I personally find them to have an average wear time, which for me, is about 3 hours (everything seems to slip off of my lips). While this colour is part of Dior's Fall collection, it makes for a beautiful Summer lip.

Rose Tutu eyeshadow palette, Rose Tutu lipstick, Rose Tutu nail polish

Carré Bleu
"A cloud of pastel blue. A line of turquoise. A block of mother-of-pearl and a glint of steel. A deep, midnight blue. The 5 Couleurs palette in 'Carré Bleu' defines the quintessentially Dior allure. Both sophisticated and casual, it styles the eye in the colours from the latest shows. Rouge Dior in 'Carré d'Or'...and Dior Vernis in 'Carré Bleu' are the showiest accessories"

Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in '276 Carré Bleu' ($61 CND):
Inspired by the Fall 2014 catwalks, Dior's new '276 Carré Bleu' eyeshadow palette combines icy blues, a frosted white, and a smoky grey and navy for a new sultry take on colour (while I am not usually a fan of blue eyeshadow, I really like this palette). Below is a closer look at each of the shades in the '276 Carré Bleu' palette:

1) A light pastel blue with a slight sheen (this comes off as more of a matte when swatched), this nicely pigmented colour makes for a unique inner corner and lower waterline highlight.

2) A smooth, frosted white, this nicely pigmented shade has little to no shimmer, making it the perfect brow bone highlight.

3) A smoky blue-grey with a slight iridescent sheen, this beautifully pigmented shade is my favourite from the new '276 Carré Bleu' palette, making for a stunning smoky eye look.

4) A stunning jewel-toned turquoise, this extremely well pigmented shade looks great worn along the lash line for a pop of colour with a more neutral eye look.

5) A deep, smoky navy with a slight iridescent sheen (this comes off as more of a matte when swatched), this shade is, unfortunately, a huge let down as it is quite dry, not very well pigmented and difficult to work with.
Dior Vernis in '796 Carré Bleu' ($26 CND):
A deep, rich navy cream, this extremely well pigmented nail polish applies evenly and opaquely in just one to two coats (one coat is more than enough but, out of habit, I always apply two). Like all of Dior's polishes, '796 Carré Bleu' has a uniquely tapered brush with allows for easy application.

Dior Rouge Dior in '135 Carré d'Or' ($36 CND):
A super light frosted peach packed with golden shimmer, '135 Carré d'Or' is not a shade I would personally recommend as it is very drying and gives lips a strange, frosted, metallic look which draws attention to fine lines on the lips.

Carré Bleu eyeshadow palette, Carré d'Or lipstick, Carré Bleu nail polish.

Dior's new Fall 2014 5 Couleurs Collection is available at Dior counters and Sephora stores as of August 1st.
