Lancôme 'French Idole' Collection (Review+Swatches)

Hey Everyone,

This fall, Lancôme Cosmetics draws inspiration from the heart of Parisian fashion with their new Fall 2014 'French Idole' Collection. With shades of Malachite Green and Brown Amethyst, both channeled from the hottest men's fashion catwalks, the gorgeous, shimmering new collection is, as Lancôme says, 'reminiscent of precious stones'.  With three stunning nail polishes, a new lipstick and one of the most beautiful jewel-toned eyeshadow palettes you have ever seen, the new collection is effortlessly chic, and absolutely perfect for fall.

"Casual style meets shimmering gems.  Lancôme pays homage to the Parisienne, her independence and resolutely effortless chic, playing with the rules of fashion to make them all her own".

Below is a closer look at some of the items from Lancôme's new 'French Idole' Collection:

Lancôme Hypnose Palette in DR07- Malachite & Améthyste ($54 CND):
With a 'harmony of uber chic khakis' and deep vibrant purples, Lancôme's newest jewel toned Hypnose palette screams fall. Beautifully pigmented, all of the shadows in the new palette work in harmony to create a soft smoky look perfect for both day and night. While slightly drier in texture, all five shadows in the palette are incredibly easy to blend leaving behind absolutely no chalky build-up or powdery fallout. Below is a closer look at each of the shades in the new 'Malachite & Améthyste' palette:

1) A deep khaki green with golden undertones and finely milled iridescent gold shimmer, this shade makes for a beautiful all over lid and/or crease colour.

2) A deep, almost blackened plum with finely milled iridescent purple shimmer, this shade can be used as both an eyeshadow and an eyeliner (wet or dry).

3) A deep, smoky, slightly blackened purple with iridescent purple, green and gold shimmer, this shade works beautifully in the crease and outer-v to create a more dramatic eye look.

4) A light khaki green with large chunks of golden glitter, this shade looks beautiful packed all over the lid.

5) A shimmering cream with iridescent gold glitter. this shade makes for a beautiful inner corner highlight (personally I think its a little too glittery to be used as a brow bone highlight).

Lancôme Hypnose Palette in 'Malachite & Améthyst'

Lancome Vernis in Love Nail Polish in '439 Topaz Rose' and '387 Améthyst Brune' ($18 CND/each):
As part of the new Parisian inspired 'French Idole' collection, Lancôme introduces three new limited-edtion jewel toned nail polishes (two of which can be seen above). Beautifully pigmented, these iridescent polishes apply smoothly and opaquely in just two coats. Below is a closer look at two of the new 'French Idole' polishes:

1) 439 Topaz Rose: A goregeous shimmering berry with an iridescent pink sheen, this stunning polish applies opaquely in two coats, lasting well over a week on nails (I wore this shade for two weeks straight with no chipping).

2) 387 Amethyst Brune: A deep smoky, almost blackened purple with a lighter iridescent purple sheen, this polish applies opaquely in two coats giving nails a unique vampy feel.

What do you think of the new Lancôme 'French Idole' Collection? Will you be picking anything up? Which of the items above would you most like to get your hands on?

Currently Coveting (Fall 2014)

Sleek and stylish, this matte black Michael Kors watch has been on my covet list for quite some time now. While I love the two Michael Kors watches I currently own, they are quite 'flashy', and I would love to add something a little more subdued and 'classic' to my collection.

I love a good 'arm party' and think this Stella & Dot gold and diamond spiked bracelet (it also comes in rose gold and silver) would make the perfect accessory for any fall-inspired fashion look.

Another ridiculously gorgeous item from the new Stella & Dot catalogue, this rose gold and pave diamond bracelet is, as the website states 'the perfect balance between edgy and delicate'. Love!

Since launching in the US, I have had my eye on Charlotte Tilbury's absolutely stunning makeup collection. My most coveted item from the line? The beautifully packaged 'Filmstar Bronze and Glow' palette (don't you love the rose gold?) which combines a light matte bronzer (perfect for contouring) and a finely milled champagne highlighting powder.

While I have never been a huge fan of Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Bricks (I find the one I own to be quite glittery and messy), the makeup artist's latest highlighter 'Sandstone' has me drooling. A mix of bronze and champagne tones, 'Sandstone' gives fair skin (like mine) the most beautiful, natural, bronzed glow.

With Fall weather on its way, my super sensitive skin has been feeling the need for some majorly hydrating products. My first choice? Glam Glow's THIRSTYMUD Hydrating Treatment (I tried a sample recently and loved it), which uses coconut, honey, olive leaf, ginger root and more to 'lock in moisture' leaving skin looking and feeling perfectly plumped.

While I would be lying if I said I didn't want to get my hands on all of Charlotte Tilbury's 'Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop' blushes (after all, I am a self-confessed blush addict), I have limited my 'covet' list to one, 'Sex on Fire'. With a beautiful mauve-pink outer rim and a deep rose core, the multi-coloured blush is absolutely perfect for fall.

While I, quite honestly, don't need really need another purse, Rebecca Minkoff's new 'Lipstick/Cerise' Mini M.A.C has absolutely caught my eye. Slightly textured, this deep burgundy and black leather purse makes for the ultimate fall bag.

What do you think of my most recent Currently Coveting list? Will you be adding anything to your wish list? What beauty and accessory items are you currently coveting? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

My Fall Inspired FOTD

Hey Everyone,

Happy Thursday! I hope you are all having a great week. After posing the question 'what kind of posts would you like to see more of from me', on my most recently giveaway (click here to enter), a lot of people said they would like to see more makeup looks/tutorials. While I, personally, am not at the stage where I feel comfortable doing a complete tutorial, I would love to share more makeup looks with you.

Today's look is a little different than my 'every day' makeup look which tends to be very light and neutral. Having been sick for the past couple of weeks, I haven't had a chance to do my makeup so, now that I am feeling a little better, I wanted to play around with some of my favourite fall shades including MAC's 'Club' eyeshadow, a gorgeous burgundy/green duo-chrome. Personally, I love the look, although I do wish the lip appeared a little more red, and less pink on camera.

Below are all of the details of my fall-inspired look:

Face
Foundation: Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum
Powder: Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder Foundation in '113'
Blush: NARS Powder Blush in 'Dolce Vita' + MAC Powder Blush in 'Brezzy'
Highlighter: ILLAMASQUA Gleam Highlighter in 'Aurora'

Eyes
Brows: It Cosmetics Universal Brow Power Pencil
Eyeshadow: MAC 'Soft Brown' (crease), Makeup Geek 'Cocoa Bear' + 'Bitten' (inner and outer corner of lid), MAC 'Club' (middle lid), MAC 'Smut' (upper lash line)
Mascara: GOSH Double Precision Mascara

Lips:
Lipstick: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 'Smitten' + 'Romantic'

What do you think of my fall inspired makeup look? Will you be trying any of the products I used? What is your typical fall makeup look? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

My Favourite Fall Blushes

Hey Everyone,

To know me is to know that I am a self-confessed blush addict. As I have said many times in the past, blush is the way to my heart (okay, flowers, chocolate and ice-cream don't hurt either). A change in weather means a change in beauty products for me, and I have recently begun switching out my coral, peach and pink toned blushes for some more fall appropriate shades. Below are my favourite fall blushes:

NARS Powder Blush in 'Dolce Vita':
A dusty rose with both red and brown undertones, this very well pigmented blush (you will want to use a light hand with this one) gives cheeks a beautiful natural-looking flush.

NARS Powder Blush in 'Sin':
A berry-toned blush with strong purple undertones and tons of very finely milled golden shimmer, 'Sin' gives cheeks a soft-subtle glow without drawing attention to imperfections.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Exposed':
A soft nude brown with strong pink undertones, this completely matte blush is extremely soft and creamy, blending effortlessly into the skin. One of my all time favourite blushes (I personally think everyone needs this in their collection), 'Exposed' gives cheeks a natural finish (think your cheeks but better), perfect for any time of the year.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Flush':
A bright berry with strong pink undertones, this insanely well pigmented blush (seriously, be careful) gives cheeks the most beautiful pop of colour and looks best worn with a more neutral eye and similarly coloured lips (I love to wear it with Too Faced's La Créme Lipstick in 'Berry Sexy').

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Natural Beauty':
A strawberry red with a very subtle hint of golden shimmer, this extremely well pigmented blush (let's be honest, Tarte's Amazonian Clay Blushes win the award for best pigmentation) gives cheeks a natural, healthy, 'I've just taken a brisk walk in the cold' flush.

ILLAMASQUA Powder Blusher in 'Naked Rose':
A soft-nude pink with brown undertones, Naked Rose's soft and creamy texture has made it my current favourite neutral blush (Tarte's 'Exposed' comes in a very close second). While I loved wearing this blush in the Summer, I think it will also make for a perfect fall blush to balance out more vampy eye and lip looks.

ILLAMASQUA Powder Blusher in 'Beg':
A dusty rose with terracotta undertones (this blush has less red and more brown undertones than 'Dolce Vita'), 'Beg' while somewhat frightening in the pan, gives cheeks a surprisingly beautiful pop of colour. Extremely well pigmented, this blush requires a very light hand so as to the dreaded 'clown look'.

MAC Mineralize Blush in 'Gentle':
A gorgeous shimmering berry with purple undertones and finely milled flecks of golden shimmer, 'Gentle' has been a long time favourite, as I feel it is the quintessential fall blush. While quite shimmery, this blush does not attract attention to large pores and/or imperfections and instead gives cheeks an absolutely beautiful glow.

NYX Powder Blush in 'Raisin':
A dusty pink-brown with slight purple undertones, this incredibly soft and creamy cool-toned blush (as you can see in the photo above, it's soft texture does create some fallout), gives cheeks a subtle hint of colour that works perfectly with a more dramatic eye and/or lip.

Dior DiorBlush in 'Brown Milly':
A deep, matte dusky-rose with both brown and purple undertones, 'Brown Milly' works as both a natural looking blush (it gives cheeks a subtle hint of colour) and a light contour powder (it gives the face some definition) when used under the cheekbones or along the temple.

Dolce Vita, Sin, Exposed, Flush

Natural Beauty, Naked Rose, Beg

Gentle, Raisin, Brown Milly

Will you be adding any of my favourite fall blushes to your collection this year? Which of the ten blushes above would you most like to get your hands on? What are you all time favourite fall blushes? Be sure to let me know in the comment section below.

Hey Everyone,

As I mentioned in yesterdays post, this Summer I took a bit of a break from regular blogging to spend time with family and friends and, unfortunately, deal with a number of health issues. I am back and wanted celebrate the fact that, as of the beginning of this past July, I have been blogging for four years. I am so thankful to everyone who has supported my blog these past four years. Through both good and bad times, my subscribers have always been there to encourage me and, for that, I am truly grateful.

My Month In Instagram Pictures #66

Hey Everyone,

I know its been a while since I've done a proper blog post. This summer was insanely busy with a visit from my best friend who was down from Calgary, a new relationship (I've been happily distracted), trips to my cottage and unfortunately, a lot of down/sick times (I just got over my second flu in two weeks).

With that said, I am back and wanting to change things up a little. While I love reviewing products, reviews can get somewhat repetitive, and I would like to try some different features (fall favourites? my beauty looks?). If you have any suggestions on the type of posts you would like to see more of, be sure to let me know in the comments. In the meantime here is a quick look at the past month of my life in pictures.

My Current Favourite Beauty Products

Hey Everyone,

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a great weekend. My weekend was actually very nice as I got to spend time with my boyfriend, who is currently working in another city, as well as both of our families. When it comes to makeup, the past month has been an absolute gold mine as I have found a number of new products that have quickly made it onto my holy grail list. From a new foundation (amazing!) and mascara, to a variety of metallic eyeshadows and beautifully pigmented blushes, here are my current favourite beauty products:

Perricone MD 'No Foundation Foundation Serum':
After receiving an email from Sephora with a code ('PMDSerum') for a free deluxe sized sample of Perricone MD's 'No Foundation Foundation Serum' with any $35 purchase, I decided to give it a try. Having heard nothing but rave reviews about this antiaging product, which uses neuropeptides to minimize the appearance of fine lines and pores, I was really excited to give it a try. While the 'No Foundation Foundation Serum' only comes in one shade (in the bottle it looks at least a couple of shades too dark for my skin tone), it somehow magically transforms to perfectly match my complexion. Extremely lightweight (it has a very liquidy consistency), this medium to light coverage foundation is best applied with your fingers and blends beautifully creating a 'second skin effect' (it does not cling to dry patches or imperfections). While the Perricone MD 'No Foundation Foundation Serum' retails for a whopping $68 CND, I will be purchasing a full sized bottle as it is, without a doubt, one of the best foundations I have ever tried.

ILLAMASQUA Cream Blusher in 'Lies':
If you read my haul post last month, you know I recently took advantage of a 25% off sale The Bay was having on all of their ILLAMASQUA products. Well, after writing that post, I went back to The Bay website and picked up a few more products, including ILLAMASQUA's Cream Blusher in 'Lies'. A gorgeous, creamy iridescent pink, 'Lies' gives cheekbones (I prefer to use this as a highlighter as opposed to a blush) the most beautiful natural looking, dewy glow (I have yet to use another highlighter since purchasing this). While this product feels quite slippery in the pan, once applied it sets and stays in place all day.

ILLAMASQUA Blusher in 'Naked Rose':
A soft-nude pink with brown undertones, ILLAMASQUA's 'Naked Rose' has, without a doubt, become my new favourite neutral blush (Tarte's 'Exposed' comes in a very close second). Incredibly well pigmented and ridiculously soft and creamy, this blush blends beautifully, leaving behind no powdery dust or fallout. Being a neutral, 'Naked Rose' works perfectly with a variety of makeup looks and is one of the blushes I will be picking up and using any time of the year.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush:
While I picked up Real Technique's Expert Face Brush a couple of months ago, it wasn't until I started using ILLAMASQUA's cream blushers that I realized what a great brush it was. With synthetic bristles, and a firm, tapered head, this brush is perfect for applying both cream and powder products along the top of the cheekbones (it would also work very nicely for contouring).
Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow in 'Playa Del Pink':
'An innovative, bi-phase, liquid eyeshadow formulated with coconut water', Josie Maran's 'Coconut Watercolour Eyeshadows' work to keep lids hydrated, and minimize the appearance of fine lines. Extremely well pigmented, the 'Coconut Watercolour' shadows give lids a beautiful metallic effect, perfect for Fall's new metallic eye trend. A gorgeous shimmering light champagne-pink, 'Playa Del Pink' looks beautiful worn alone or under a similarly coloured eyeshadow (I personally use it both ways), and once set, lasts all day without any creasing.
MAC Eyeshadows in 'French Cuff' and 'Mythology' and Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in 'Burlesque'
In keeping with Fall's metallic eye trend, I decided to dig into one of my Z-palettes and see what autumn inspired colours I could find. MAC's 'French Cuff', a shimmering, metallic rose gold, MAC's 'Mythology' a shimmering, metallic copper with pink undertones and Makeup Geek's 'Burlesque', a slightly metallic burgundy with iridescent pink shimmer, were my shadows of choice, and I have been using them almost every day since. All extremely well pigmented, these shadows work in combination ('French Cuff' on the inner half of the lid, 'Mythology' on the outer half of the lid, and 'Burlesque' in the crease) to create an absolutely stunning eye look perfect for the transition from summer to fall.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in 'Callisto':
Having seen several swatches of NARS' new Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in 'Callisto', a light purple with strong silver undertones, I knew I had to get my hands on it. Well, let me tell you, it is even more beautiful in person. Used wet or dry (I usually use it dry), this intensely pigmented shadow gives lids an absolutely stunning metallic finish (can you tell I'm into metallic eyes?), and works beautifully on its own or used in combination with some of the other metallic eyeshadows I have been loving. I am very much smitten with NARS's new shadows and definitely have my eyes on a couple more shades ('Desdemona' and 'Europa' here I come!).
MAC Pigment in 'Tan':
While I am not usually a fan of pigments or loose eyeshadows (they make such a mess, especially around a clumsy girl like me), I have absolutely been loving MAC's 'Tan' pigment, a warm, light bronze with rose gold undertones and iridescent shimmer. Insanely well pigmented (all of MAC's pigments are), 'Tan' looks beautiful worn all over the lid (I like to use it wet for a more foiled appearance) with just a bit of mascara, making for a simple, yet stunning eye.

Lancôme 'Gradiose Mascara':
If you read my review of Lancôme's new 'Gradiose Mascara' you already know how much I have been loving it. With a uniquely shaped swan-neck wand, a plastic brush and a formula that perfectly separates, lengthens and volumizes lashes, Lancôme's 'Gradiose Mascara' has done wonders for my short stubby lashes. I have been wearing this mascara on both my upper and lower lashes every day since receiving it, and would highly recommend checking it out.

Lies, Naked Rose

Playa Del Pink, Callisto, Tan

French Cuff, Mythology, Burlesque
